EA might not be making any more NFS games.

Not more than a month after the release of Need For Speed: Undercover, the Electric Playground is reporting that Electronic Arts may be cutting the franchise entirely. The videogame web show claims that future titles in the series have been canceled. EA director of communications Colin Macrae provided Electric Playground with the following comment:
"We're working through a process on people, products, and facilities at EA and don't have any announcements today."
Undercover, the most recent entry in the long-running franchise, was received fairly well but didn't crack the top 20 in the NPD sales charts for the month of November. Earlier in the year, EA CEO John Riccitiello had spoken of plans to split the Need for Speed development team into two groups, allowing for a 24-month cycle for creating each game rather than the 12 months cycle that he said "torture[d] a very talented group of people." If this report is true, I'm disappointed that we'll never get the chance to see what could have come from giving this series a much-needed boost in development time to try out new ideas. And unless the publisher already has new plans for the creators of Need For Speed, we could be seeing further layoffs from EA soon, as has been previously predicted. We'll keep checking for official confirmation and word from EA on what's happening to the Need for Speed franchise and why.

NFS underground 2 was the last one I played and enjoyed. Even then the catch up got on my bits. Had a dabble with the first one on the 360 but it was woefull so I stopped even looking and caring.

As mentioned the catch up really ruins any enjoyment I get from the current game. I can be leading by about 15 seconds and as soon as I clip something I get overtaken. Really annoying, should be allowed to be turned off.

Read it in the PC section.

Shame really before the last version they were all pretty good.

Even Pro Street?!
The two Underground games were pretty good (although I preferred 1 much more than 2). After that the presentation has been spot on, but gameplay just hasn't brought anything new and it's since been beaten to a pulp by the Burnout franchise.

TNFS and Porsche Challenge were bar far the two best games in the series.

Cars handled like a joy, especially Porsche Challenge.

They need to head back the more realisic sim and leave the boy racer games to the others.

Pro Street was the only one I didn't stick with, got bored of that quite early on.

Anyway I'd much rather they spent 2 years and bring out a decent title rather than quickly knocking up this years cash in ready for christmas each year.

Yeah although it had major flaws. the concept of it was really good.

Played it religiously for two weeks!

exactly my thoughts, not a huge loss though i would have liked to have seen a next gen underground game :)

Cant say I hated any of them tbh. Played them all to death so it would just be hypocritical slating them. Even Pro Street, as cool as it is to hate I didnt find it that bad at all. NFSUG to Most Wanted where the best in the series imo but I still enjoyed the others even Undercover.

Cant say ill be overly bothered. According to Wiki theres rumours of the Burnout guys taking on Need For Speed XIII.

I'm quite enjoying playing Undercover right now actually, and enjoyed Most Wanted when that came out.

Carbon and Pro Street were complete ass though.
