I know that OCuK forums are promoted all over the net as being the best source of computer knowledge but doesn't there seem to be a mass hoard of newer members here?

There are a lot of 2008'ers but most of them will fade away after a couple of hundred posts, with the obvious exception of Pilky, who will soon have so many posts he will be the majority owner in the company.
