offer on overclockers seems very tempting... someone convince me!

I think thats what iot is, as surely they would have to state it's oc'ed due to the possible damage it can do to the cpu/its lifespan?

It IS in "Home » Systems (PCs) » Overclocked" section of their site.

I dont dissagree that the i7 is future proof, but is it really worth an extra 1k over a Q6600 now. I think it isn't worth it and is quite frankly madness to justify buying one.

Not saying its for me, far more than I need. My daul core does me grand. But, if you simply must have the latest and greatest processor and socket., given the individual component cost, then its a fair deal IMHO.

This was the closest I could find.
Seems like a really good deal to me. :D

1,860.60 inc VAT is the bottom line figure.

Protip: Ultima OC Dominator

OC = OverClocked.

To confirm, look at their stock systems, they do not have OC in the system title.

I get £1582.67 inc VAT for the system. So that's £266.51 for cable management and a years warranty/tech support.

Could get a monitor for that :p

Is my OCUK just cheaper or have I missed something?

wrong mother bord and what looks like the wrong ram (although i went with more expensive dominator ram cause i thought thats what they used rather than some cheaper stuff)

Also you got the wrong gfx card :p

Another winner failing to spot the wrong CPU :)

yup, seems in all this christmas excitement Overclockers have advertised this as a 'Retail' cpu.

but:

# Core i7 920 runs at 2.66GHz,
# Core i7 940 runs at 2.93GHz,
# Core i7 965 Extreme runs at 3.20GHz

im still tempted to buy it, ive been waiting ages to buy a new rig... i have to take the leap at some point, or ill end up waiting for ever... plus that rig will be quite futureproof.

had my heart set on the i7 920 @ 3.33ghz, because the next rig up was an extra £850, but with this weeks offer that price increase is only £350, plus almost everything improves.

but some of you guys are right, i dont feel the same about PC gaming as i once used to... i think im trying to convince myself if i buy a good system it will get more of my old enthusiasm back, lately ive preffered my 360 to PC gaming for some reason...

i guess i'll have to make a decision between now and tommorow morning, this is the machine i always thought id buy...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...0GHz @ QX6950+ 3.00GHz+ Quad Core DDR2 System

almost £1k cheaper... but then again money is their to be spent! lol

p.s. as everyones said, you guys specc'd the wrong CPU, mobo, RAM and GPU :P

does overclocking seriously harm the lifespan of the CPU? surely if it did it wouldnt be so wide spread?

as i said in my original post, its something ive never tried yet, just trying to figure out if i should go down that rabbit hole.

get over to general hardware they'll spec you up a good cheap system :p

Ocing can affect the lifespan (iirc it doesn;t so much now was you don;t need such high voltages) But it shouldn't be massive, the cpu will probbably last well past your next upgrade.
