offer on overclockers seems very tempting... someone convince me!

The system is indeed overclocked, As for the life span of the cpu, no it won't affect this much as the voltage used is very low, at arround 1.25volts, the overclock it self does'nt kill the cpu as much as overvolting.

I have been impressed by the core i7 rigs with how "out of the box" stable they are, they are a dream to config.

thats good to hear, so they will be a good start for someone who has some technical knowledge (probably limited compared to some of you guys) but is yet to actually start overclocking?

this is my main worry i suppose, to spend so much on an overclocked rig and then end up frying the cpu lol. I feel i deserve to splash out on the 940, ive been upgrading my old rig for so long now i know that its time to retire her, and that rig would be quite an improvement from what ive got at the mo.

Just save your money and don't go for the latest hardware. It is already out of date, and you will lose shedloads of money over the next year, and will then be wanting to upgrade anyway.

Spend less on a very good system that will run everything you thro at it, then in 1-2 yrs time the money saved will pay for upgrades to bring it over the spec of a core i7 system anyway when parts, especially the i7, will be far cheaper.

Pretty suprised by the amount of people advocating buying a £600 PC, if he has the money why not.

Theres a real difference with a PC with a Raptor, Quality Mobo, Case, etc to a budget rig.

Speaking of that, get a better case with a good PC like that.

£1,700 is a lot of monet to be spending on a Pc, but if it's you're hobby and you can afford it then why not?

Theres a real difference with a PC with a Raptor,.

didn;t the 1tb hdd's outperform the raptors and velociraptors in nearly every real world test? iirc they only lost out in the wholly artificial bench mark tests, and even then by only a tiny amount.

I know the Raptor X has been beaten, I thought the Veloci was still top? You could be right, I haven't looked at the latest results.

I know the Raptors still have the best seek time though so flicking through files etc on the OS is better which is you can't really see in a benchmark other than "7ms vs 14ms" or something.

That's a good point but not everyone would be arsed to do that or has the patience, especially regarding overclocking!

I find designing and building a tower to my own spec is really enjoyable and so satisfying when I get it running and see that it performs better than I expected.

Just started my new build last night, going well.

Personally I wouldn't pay that much for that system, but if you want total peace of mind and full support and dont like the hassle of building then go for it.

It is a good spec,

It is a good spec,

ive built systems before, but never overclocked... i have the spare money so i thought buying a overclocked system from OCuk would be a good place to start, although i originally though i would go for the Q6600 to be honest.... somehow i have convinced myself to go for the i7, plus the support and my lazyness are telling me to just order a pre-built system, just want to spend xmas with beer, spicy kettle chips and this rig, having to build a system would eat into this quality time.

Only a 300GB hard drive?

For that price you'd want AT LEAST 1TB.

I realise it's a Velo but it needs a second drive ;)

yeah i agree, but i can easily pick up a couple of 1TB HDDs and slap them in when needs be. already have a rig that is used for storing data so those 300GBs will be for games and some software.

i agree with what everyone is saying, it is a lot of money, yes i will loose money when the new hardware comes out dx11, 32nm etc... but this will always be the case, their will always be new hardware round the corner, as i said before i have been putting this off for so long i need to take the leap at some point, at at least with this full DDR3 system it should be quite future proof, so when new hardware does come out i should be able to upgrade without much hassle... although i shouldnt need to upgrade for a while with a spec like that, i mean ppl are easily getting 4ghz+ on the i7s, and most games spec a recommended gpu with 512mb, so i cant see me changing much for a while.

get a better case with a good PC like that.

yeah, i ordered it with the Antec 1200, it looks amazing plus it comes with cleanable air filters on the air intakes... my house is 200 years old and you dont know how many times i have to clean my fans and heatsinks, almost seems like a weekly task!

im hoping these filters will make it a lot easier to keep my internals nice and clean.

thanks again for all your advise guys, posted my financial agreement this morning anyway, so it should be mine before crimbo... not that i need it (the finance), just means i dont have to depart with almost £2k for another couple of months.

edit: the forum blocked out a word for some reason, im sure i didnt curse!
