I think the clutch slave cylinder in the GF's parent's Focus is faulty.

They have said there has been a few drops of fluid on their left shoe and the pedal is slippy, sounds like brake fluid to me!

Anyway, my friend recently had his changed by a friend of a friend for £40 cash. Apparently this friend of a friend manages a Mr. Clutch and the price for the change in the garage is £240 plus parts (or there abouts).

This sounds extortiante.

I thought the slave cylinder is quite an easy task to change?

From Ford the part is £65 ish but I have ebayed and come up with £15! Would this part be significantly poor quality or something?

Can anybody elaborate on what the process of fitting a new one is?

Thanks,

Chris

the slave on the focus is inside the gearbox as its a intergrated concentric slave and thrust bearing, so the box has to come out, it also takes a bit of time to bleed properly, especially if it has been leaking.

a cheap part will see the job being done again in 6 months.

might as well change the clutch while the box is out as well.

I had mine go.

The MS was the best part of a ton on it's own (if i remember right - it was a while ago).

Labour is about 2 hours or so too. I paid about £170-180 (again, if i remember right) at a backstreet place I know. Pain in the arse job to DIY as the access is crap.
