Am looking at either of these 2 PSU to power the system in my sig, have a Corsair HX 520W atm, but has always had a strange cherp/morse code type sound coming from it now and again, add to this i have recently gone form a 8800GT to the ATI 4870 and have just upgrade to 2 raptors in RAID 0 plus my old WD hard disk, so think i need a bit more umph.

These seem to be around the same price bracket, obviously the Be Quiet has over 100 watts more though, guess which ever one would be the quietest would be the best!

Neither one offers good value at the moment at £115. You'd be better off tracking down an Enermax Modu 82+ or having a look at Zalman's offerings. That's if you're after supplies with a reputation for quietness anyway.

The Antec Signature 650w, Thermaltake Toughpower 850w and PC Power & Cooling 750w would also make for good, if not particularly quiet alternatives at that price point.

EDIT - Oh and the Cooler Masters are also rather good if a tad overlooked.

Already 500W PSU has good power reserve, and that calculation includes overvolting of CPU to near 150W draw.

Agreed. Enermax Modu82+ 625W is only around £80 and is one of the quietest PSUs around. I personally own one and it's silent, I can't hear it at all.

Well i had the Enermax Infiniti 720w, but isnt 100% compatable with the Abit Ip35-Pro (it turns itself on after shutdown) So im not sure if this just related to the infiniti or all Enermax PSUs??

I don't know the answer to that sorry, but I will say that it isn't the Infiniti that has a problem with the Abit board, it's the other way around. I've also read posts from Abit forum mods claiming that Corsair PSUs are dodgy because they won't work with the IP35 boards...yet they work with basically every other board out there...hmm? Similar claims were made against pretty much every Seasonic unit, self-branded or otherwise so I think the Abit guys really need their heads checked. Would it be so hard to admit they have issues with their own product?

Have to say i've never heard any noises out of my corsair hx620. The fan is near enough silent, that is, not at all audible over my case+proc fans, which aren't that loud. The only electrical noises I get sometimes are from my gfx card. I'd definitely stick with a modular type PSU, I find builds with them are so much more clean and easy to manage cables, plus these 620 corsairs seem to be able to handle almost all mid/high end systems without a problem.

Think im going to go with the, 750W Zalman ZM750-HP V2, its got good reviews, not sure what version 2 brings to the table over the first version??

Just posting to say that I have had no problems with my corsair 620W and the IP35 Pro (I did kill a 620W but that was an unrelated incident). My Corsair 620W is the latest variant with the 8 pin pcie snap-offs.

500w for a single card and quad is more than amble - MODU 82+ 525w gets my vote (but the 625 is only a few quid more if your thinking of a twin card setup within a year)

Zalman HP (heatpipe) psu also very good, Corsair are very overpriced now :( and RMA is not so good

Agreed but i wouldnt buy Corsair again for anything as heavy as a PSU due to their Netherlands RMA.
Two retailors provide UK RMA service now for Corsair PSU's if you bought it from them, unfortunatly OcUK isn't one of them.
