What remotes do you use for your HTPC running Vista Media Centre?

Wanting to build a HTPC with a rack case and need a remote.

Anyone recommend a good remote thats not IR?

i use the MS Media Centre one, i think its about £16 but its really good. Works with MediaPortal too.

Get a Harmony so that you can control your htpc, amp, sky, tv, pj etc aswell.

I've got one of the cheaper models but it's still really good, except for the programming software which isn't.

It can take a while to set up but once you've set up each 'activity' that you'll use, it's a breeze.

Does the Harmony 1000 work with Vista media Centre to control the HTPC or does it just control the AV equipment?

A google doesn't bring much up on it

thought it was RF tbh. It also has 2 extra little sticky things that allow it to control 2 other devices.

RF or IR i've had no problems at all with it.

As long as you have an IR input. So you still have to buy a remote, then program the harmony to emulate that remote.

I would recommend the M$ one.

Microsoft Media Center Remote does this come with a usb RF version?

This one is IR meaning it needs to be in direct line with HTPC

Are you using the Antec case as I think that has an IR built in?

If you're putting the amp, htpc etc in another room you can use those IR spot things (not sure that's the right name!). I think Angel Eyes on avforums uses them as his kit is on a cupboard outside of the room.

i use the ms one, the reciever is really good tbh, it never 'misses' -unless using the keyboard, then you lose the odd letter, probably to do with my knee being in the way of the keyboard tbh

I use the Imon remote supplied with the Silverstone LC16MR I used for my HTPC.

I was going to get a silverstone but have now changed my mind.

I'm getting a Rack PC case.

I use the MS remote with a PowerMid IR extender (converts IR to RF and back to IR again). Works just fine. PowerMid TX/RX sets are around £25.

Get an IR repeater then it wouldnt have to be in line of sight.

Get the 555 then, 45 squids. I've got one and it's got all of the functionality you'll need.
