The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I got an email the other day saying i can reactivate my eve account for 5 days for free, and its been a while since i last played (i stoped shortly after the patch which added new graphics). For anyone who is still playing, can you tell me how much game time cards cost with ISK these days, and how long do you think it will take me to make that much money doing lv4 missions?

I ask because I may try the game again, but only if i can manage to play for a while without having to pay the monthly fee. I have arround 40m SP, caldari BS at 5 and average missile skills, so i can run LV4 missions, but im not sure how much things have changed, and if i will be able to make enough ISK to buy a GTC within the 5 days free.

And how much do you think a lv4 mission with good skills (but only average pilot as its been a while since i played) will make per hour?

you can make 24m per hour doing level 4 missions,

but i would estimate 15m to be sure... so to get a 60 day GTC you'll need to run missions for 40 hours - or 8 hours a day :)

A struggle for 5 days, but doable if you leave it until the Christmas break where you can whore the game.
Once you have the GTC you can relax a little having 60 days to get the next one :)

Another nice wee revenue stream, if you're in hisec, is to get yourself a good industrial, fill it with mining laser upgrades, and afk mine with it. You don't make a lot but it takes almost no effort and it does add up. Just press a couple of buttons every 30 minutes to an hour.

Well on my other account, which was actully my first char, is quite an industrial char, it can fly hulks, use t2 strip miners, and 100% refine ore. The problem is although that char could proberly mine a GTC worth of isk in 5 days, it doesn't actully have any isk or ships on that character :(

As for a mining laser on an indy, surely that would make basicaly nothing in isk, it would take hours to fill its cargo, and not get much for each full load as it can only mine ore where its safe (ie, no rats).

It makes very little per minute, but it does it all the time ;) 138m3 per cycle with mine, since all the lows are full of mining laser upgrades. I might be able to improve that with a strip miner, maybe, but I don't want to train any more mining skills. But it does add up. You're right, you have to be in .9 or 1, but since you'll be mining veld anyway that's not a problem unless you live in lowsec (and if you're mission grinding, hisec makes more sense anyway).

The point is that you do it afk so it doesn't cut into your gametime or real life, I tend to have mine mining while i'm in the garage working on the bikes, or playing a different game, or whatever. Just swing by the PC every 40 minutes and press F1 ;)

Don't forget that you cant fit a strip miner to a indy, the strip miners have insane requirements, and its the barges that have a ship ability that reduces the requirements to a normal ammount, thus limiting them to barges.

Then I shall not tell you where I am :) But yeah, I used to have loads of 60, 70K roids to choose from, now they're a lot harder to find, dont know if it's a change in the respawn time or what but it's not ideal.

Nah, you can fit some strip miners, deep core miner 2.

Unless they have changed something in my absense, how can you get a strip miner which uses 12,000 CPU on an industrial ship? All versions of the strip miner are the same CPU usage. As for the deep core miner, why would you use that over a standard mining laser? deep core lasers are for mercoxite, for everything else they are worse then normal mining lasers.

Ah, no, you're right- EFT has the deep core miner in the wrong group, they have it listed as a strip miner not a mining laser. Anyway, the point I was making is that indy mining when you're not otherwise playing can add a few million per night to your wallet, which soon adds up.

looking into giving this another go. installed the game from the disc copy i bought a few years ago, but when i try to log in with my trial account it says servers are down. any ideas why? windows firewall has it down as an exception so it should work fine, also norton seems ok with it too, so...

SO many updates since your CD version it'd defo be quicker to download the latest version from the site. Just getting back into the game I think. Im looking to getting some good hours in over the chrimbo holidays.
