Hi Lad's hope you can help with this:)

I do not have a 360 atm, my other half should be gettting me one for xmas:cool:

What resolutions does the 360 support and what is the best input for me to use on my Monitor.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-071-VS

Atm i have the PC in dvi and vga and hdmi free to use for the 360 so what is best for the 360 and does the 360 support 1920 x 1080 (16:9 1080p) via hdmi or does it have to be via vga:)

This is all the info i could find:o

Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable to connect your Xbox 360

* 640 x 480
* 848 x 480
* 1024 x 768
* 1280 x 720 (16:9 720p)
* 1280 x 768
* 1280 x 1024
* 1360 x 768
* 1920 x 1080 (16:9 1080p)

Dashboard Update should have added

* 1280 x 800
* 1440 x 900
* 1680 x 1050
* 1600 x 1200
* 1920 x 1440

Currect me if i am not correct about this bit was a bit unsure lol.

If the VGA cable ever looks better than a HDMI cable then there is some sort of weak link going on (e.g. the TV supports 1:1 mapping over VGA but not HDMI) - HDMI should look better than VGA.

I'd go for a HDMI lead, though isn't that dependant on which x360 you get? I don't think they all have HDMI out..

There's nothing wrong with the connection. I just don't like the jagged-sharp image it gives.

Aliasing is far less noticeable over the VGA cable because of the softer picture it gives.

I prefer VGA to HDMI for the exact same reason. Image seems a bit brighter over VGA too.

VGA offers a wider choice of resolutions

How does it?

This is using HDMI

Mine only displays these resolutions using HDMI with my 42inch lcd.
480p
720p
1080i
1080p.

Mine did before on my LCD now after the update these have appeared :) Now on my plasma I get the same ones you have so it is a bit weird, I don’t quite know what to make of it quite widespread that users are reporting no change since the update in what resolutions they get to choose from I think it’s down the monitor :confused:

Dont shoot me on this, but have you got the latest update?

Yes i have the latest update.
I have just tried it with a vga cable and it gets all the same resolutions as yours with that.
I think it must be down to what tv people are using.
My setup is better using HDMI at 1080p

I must admit its been a while since i tried my VGA cable and compared it to HDMI. But when i did, the choice of resolutions was tiny on my LCD TV using HDMI.

Ill have to take another look.

All new 360s now have HDMI output.

I think it's less to do with the display much as personal preference.

I don't deny that HDMI looks good and is the sharper image, I just far prefer the equally good yet smoother picture that VGA gives on both my monitor and TV.

It's clearly not just me as DreXeL's said the exact same thing, and I've several mates with the same opinion.

I have tried all the connections.
Component,VGA and HDMI and on my setup HDMI is by far the best for picture quality.

On your setup is the key there. ;)

My advise to the OP would be to see if they have a friend with a VGA cable and HDMI cable that doesn't mind lending them for a few hours. Play your favourite games and see which you prefer.
