I am selling my 1Ds, my 20D and my Sigma 20-10 as I have a 5D mk II on order. Post up some samples, forget the 40D! I can't wait :)

Out of interest, how much did you pay and where did you buy it from?

look a bit closer :p it's a friends, got it him today :) paid £1712 for it. Not bad tbh.....it's a nice camera, almost undistinguishable quality from the 1DS, perhaps the colours arent quite as vibrant (but all the reviews said it didnt have quite as much colour depth) so it's not unexpected.

Very nice unit, the video is incredibly good. Obviously the body isnt as nice as the 1DS, but it's less than half the price when you buy at retail (i paid a grand more for the 1DS so not too bad, and i do much prefer the body)

Tom.

You mean the Sigma 10-20mm? If so how much for? :)

rG-tom you are a lucky sod! Wish I could afford a 5D or even a 40D!

It's mine :) Can't wait to put it through it's paces. Absolutely astonished at the IQ you get for the price. I think many people will struggle to justify the price of the 1DS3 considering you could get two of these instead, and I think obvious praise for the MK2 that it's main comparison is a 4.5k top of the line DSLR!

It's without a lot of things of the 1DS3, fortunately for me I require almost none of them to get the same photo. I think a good few people will feel the same too. Don't get me wrong i'm not trying to take away anything from the 1DS3, just very glad i no longer have to pay top whack for the top whack IQ! (In DSLR terms).

This will likely last me even longer than my 20D!

I love the 1D series but after a while of owning a couple of them I've just come to realize how obtrusive and cumbersome they are, particularly for street photography, photographing bands and travelling, as I like to do - I found it to become somewhat of a burden carrying around such a heavy camera all the time. In that respect, I would swap the 1DS3 for the lighter kit without hesitation! I've been toying with the idea of switching to Nikon for a number of months now with a D700 in mind (I still think it out performs the 5DII at higher ISOs), but decided to wait it out for the new 5D as I already have the lenses.

Adrianr, that's a very good price for the kit - do you mind me asking where from?

Jesta - yes I did mean 10-20! I don't know how much, I was just going to auction it online.

EnglishMack, i'm the manager of a camera store and Ady has been a very good friend for a number of years :)

I personally dont find the 1DS obtrusive at all, considering that the 5D is going to be gripped anyway (24-70/105L plus a flash means it's VERY hard to hold an ungripped body comfortably) so there is no size difference, and the weight the mk3 bodies is much less than the older mk2/mk1 1D/S.

If you've already got a bit invested in canon lenses there isnt enough between any cameras on the market atm to warrant a complete system swap unless you NEED a particular part of the system you'd be moving to, bodies will always be being released and there isn't a bad camera out from the big manufacturers atm with very decent results from both cameras in low light (nikon do have the edge per pixel but the 5Dmk2 can resolve more lines of resolution at iso6400 than the d700 still due to the pure extra pixels it has)

You still at the shop in the Trafford Center? Been a while since i spoke to you haha.

Very nice! Was reading about the new 5D this morning. Full frame sensor aren't they?

Cheers for sorting me out on sat Tom, really appreciate it :) Had a play with it when I got home and think Amanda will love the TZ. Nice bit of kit. When I get some money for a new SLR I'll be back!
