Blank Screen Issue.... Vista/rad4850

Had a really strange problem last night

Switched the computer on to be greeted with a blank screen once the PC had booted up. Windows is running fine in the background but nothing is displayed on the monitor.

Machine boots fine in safe mode. And if you delete the GFX in device manager it will also display fine once it boots up. Its only apon installing any ATI drivers do i get this issue.

I am able to VNC onto the machine from a laptop so i know everything is working fine. The refresh rate is set to 60 so the monitor should display it fine. like i say it all works fine right up until i install ATI drivers.

so the card works ok and so does the monitor as i can display fine without drivers........soooooo any ideas?

Any other gfx card in your system? Tried your monitor in the other port on the gfx card?

No other GFX card. Also did try other port with no success

Had the same problem with mine on vista64/4850

Removed drivers, ran driver cleaner in safe mode, rebooted and installed the latest (8.12?) cats and its fine. Its actually a docemented problem with ATI and the older drivers.

I couldn't fix the problem until i ran the driver cleaner btw, simple uninstall, reboot and reinstall was not sufficient

any chance you could link me to the driver cleaner used. I cant seem to find one without having to pay....if i have to pay then fair enough

OK ran it....reinstalled the drivers and guess what

Yup its still the same

its looking more and more like a rebuild all the time
