£200-£300 upgrade ideas?

For just COD 4 no need to upgrade the CPU. I would say go for a HD4870 or GTX 260 Maxcore and 4GB RAM and sell your old 2 GB.

No need to upgrade at all really just for COD4, I'd probably leave upgrading until you need more power for newer games.

Good call on the upgrade, save a little more and get 4gb and you've got a nice system there :)

I have that chip and motherboard and it does 3.2 ghz (400x8) at stock voltage.

I've got 6GB of that Corsair now :)

I'd love to know exactly how I can get 3.2 with this setup if you have time to tell me :)

I really don't know what I'm doing wrong but mine failed on that sp4000 thing almost straight away at 400x8 :(

I really don't overclock very well :(

But it's CHRISTMAS :p

I think the main things are to disable all of the fancy CPU stuff (speedstep/c1e/etc) and to lock the pci-e frequency so that you don't raise that when u up the fsb.

You may also need a little more voltage, and don't forget to check what speed your ram is running at, there will be a list of frequencies that are dependant on the fsb you choose. Choose the one nearest but just under (if not exact) to what your ram is rated at.

If you try 400x7 that gives 2.8 which is an almost certain overclock at stock. You can then check your system for stability at 400fsb - if it's ok at 400x7 but fails at 400x8 then you'll just need to keep nudging the voltage up until it's stable at 400x8.

Another point is that the voltage on the p5k is rubbish. Use CPUZ to measure actual voltage, don't be afraid to push it up (within reason) - just make sure your temps are under 70'c.
