Well, I finished ATC college last week and got posted to Aberdeen  I now have 3 weeks to sort my family out and get up there.

Anybody from the area? We were looking at Westhill, seems like a nice place.

All ive got to say is prepare for the grey  The buildings, the people and the sky :(

I think westhill is an okay area, got a Tesco and a Marks n Spencer if memory serves correctly. Never really been up that way much.

Good luck :)

I personaly hate the place....horrible people and horrible buildings. My brother lives there so I'm down once a month or so.

This is my fourth year here and I still love it, though I am still a student. The longest winter day was yesterday I believe, we're talking getting light at 9ish and dark at 3 or so. But get used to that and the summer more than pays for it, great long days. Whereabouts on westhill? I'm in Old Ab so can't give you a detailed answer, but i can give you a loose description :)

It's not a bad place really, all the haters seem to be from Inverness. :)

The grey'ness might be strange for people, I suppose but I'm used to it.

It obviously has problems with drugs, etc much like anywhere else. Westhill is a nice enough area, just outside Aberdeen (it's actually in Aberdeenshire, not Aberdeen City). As said previously, has a Tesco, Markies and an ALDI! Saves you having to go into town for shopping.

Not sure what else to say really, if you have any questions I'll try to answer them, there are a few other Aberdonians going about on here. :)

Don't move up here. It's a terrible place. :p

Westhills got a decent enough reputation. If you're thinking on the outskirts, there's also places like Bucksburn, Kingswells, Cove - all seem like decent enough places. If you want to be nearer the city, there's the Bridge of Don too.

Where are you going to be working at? Commuting in the wrong direction can be a nightmare and take 1 hour each way to do a few miles if you live and work in the wrong place.

I went up there to visit some friends, had no idea what people were saying to me half the time :(

we have friends that live in westhill...its nice enough ( he works for BP/amaco and just about everybody in their cul-de-sac is in the industry in some form)

its right on the edge of the conurbation really...theres nothing behind it except farmland and forests

most of the housing is new..its basically a commuter area..must have been small at one point but much larger now

there a large 24 hr tesco and a small marks and spencer and a handy costco for your main shopping needs

if you like the outdoors its a great area, excellent fishing, good walking and lots of distilleries

I'm not sure why some people might thinks its poor economically...I have yet to see more R8's anywhere else in the country!! the audi dealers up there must live of the BP company car scheme

and i like the granite!! when the sun shines (!!!) it sparkles

Have an ex who lives in Dyce.

I loved the city, the people and generally everything there (Don't tell the current girlfriend).

Beach was a pleasure to walk down (even in December ha) and the snow covered hills were nice too!

Plenty of nice bars and restaurants also.

Lovely city, lovely people but yeh can't understand most of them.

Hud a bus ya wydo!

:D

I've been having a look at rental places on ASPC. Westhill and Kingswell seem like the best places so far. I'll need to rent a room for a couple of months to start with anyway while I get the house down here sold.

ATC Tower

Ooh, I'll be able to watch you out the window at work!! :)

Depends what times you will be working for the commute. There are back roads from Westhill and Kingswells to Dyce, could take you less than 15 minutes, could take closer to an hour. All depends on the times you will be travelling.

If you are looking at suburbs, then Bridge Of Don is another choice, just a back road away, again ranges from 15 minutes upwards. If you don't mind being out of town a little bit look at Blackburn, Kintore, Inverurie. They are all out the A96 and not bad for getting to Dyce.

I hope you drive as public transport to Dyce is not the best, there is a train station but it's on the wrong side of the airport!

Best thing to do is look on ASPC it's the best place for property in and around Aberdeen.
