Tried to research without starting a new thread but from reading here I'm getting the impression that neither works properly on 64bit Vista? Given that most folk seem to post if there is a problem perhaps I can encourage some to post their positive comments too?

I'm currently with onboard sound since upgrading last year to Vista 64 and my Audigy not liking it. I do miss the sound quality in music and games though so now I'm looking for a new card. I don't need top end, was thinking of the XiFi Extreme Music or the Sonar D1. Unfortunately the PCI Express port on this (and I imagine most) PC is redundant due to where it is (under the grfx card).

So, big music fan, like playing lots of FPS games and 64bit Vista. Which of those PCI cards are for me?

TIA

I've been using an X-Fi in Vista x64 for over a year and never had any problems with it.

If you get an Xonar then EAX is emulated through the drivers and it doesn't always work in every game, but it's still great for gaming.

I've used both Xonar and X-Fi and the X-Fi is still better for games in my opinion.

If you're more into music then get an Xonar, but if you play games more then get an X-Fi.

Bugger... and if I like both about equally? :-)

Thanks for the response.

You won't be disappointed at all in games with the Xonar. None of the new games I've played recently use EAX either making the XFI's primary feature a mute point on modern games.
