I'd like user opinions on central vacuum cleaner systems, they look quite attractive and wont be too much extra bother to install as i am in the process of gutting a house which i am going to live at for a good while.

The salesmen make it sound very attractive, and i really like the idea of the dust going to one central location with no power unit to lug around all the time. But sadly i do not know of anyone with one.

Long shot and i cant think what there really is to know, other than whether people find them to "suck" satisfactorily with potentially such lengthy vacuum runs. Its a reasonable investment with not much scope for removal or any form of try before i buy, so i thought it can't hurt to ask :)

CVC Direct were actually the company i was planning on sourcing the kit from. Glad to hear that positive account.

I cant get my head around why these arnt commonplace though, what am i missing?

Your missing nothing. They are great systems. Just as long as you get enough holes put in :p

We have one of these in my parents house. It's good but you still have to lug around a 15 foot hose :p It seems pretty pointless in the end as the hose was as big as a hoover and probably the same amount of work lugging the hose around to different wall sockets as the hoover would be to electric sockets.

I don't live there anymore unfortunately but installing it was no trouble at all! The the thing you need though to get a good hoovering is the expensive head with the rotary brush in it. Really makes a difference!

Must be a tiny vacuum for an ant

To be honest though I've got a £40 el-cheapo hoover and it's superb. If an inbuilt system costs £1000 then just get the cheap hoover and spend £960 on drink and women:) I know what I'd rather do.

A friend has one of these central systems and says the same thing about the hose - they just end up lugging the hose around.
