Toyo tyres; any good, or are there better options?

T1-R's are great for what they are, a budget performance tyre.

When you compare them to other tyres in the price bracket, i.e. Pirelli P6000s, they really are good.

I had a set on my 160hp Charade Turbo after using Yokohama semi slicks for about a year, there was very little difference in dry grip. The Yoko's had a very very stiff sidewall, so there wasnt a huge amount of feedback on the limit of cornering, where the Toyos had a softer sidewall, and hence were more progressive.

That said on something like like an EVO or a Subaru, or anything capable of high cornering forces, that may not be a good thing as the sidewalls will wear quickly in comparison to the rest of the tyre.

I posted a thread about this tyre size the other day, you cant buy F1s in 195/55/15, so imo T1-R's are the best tyre in that category.

Hopefully they will still be on sale when I get paid this month as ill be tempted to order 4.

I have never had a set of toyos but have a few mates who run them and i think there fantastic. They grip like nothing else in the wet or dry and for most people will be plenty for there needs.

Problem is people run them on track and expect them to be as good as some of the more expensive tyres which for me is where they dont exel. For example my mates pulsar runs them and there great but on a recent trackday evan tho it was freezing and damp he was still ripping them to shreds !!!!

I dont think i have ever seen a tyre like this before, it was litrally ripping the sidewalls off !! in all fairness i can imagine the pulsar is pretty hard on tyres in general due to the 4x4 and the nature of the car ...

They're pretty shocking on most Imprezas I've seen that have driven them hard on a track, I'm not sure if they're any better on 2WD cars.

I have had toyo proxies and Eagle F1s on my t350c, I find the toyos need a little warming up in the wet to get to the same standards as the F1s.
But once warm I would put them on par with the f1s.
Mr white is correct the toyos are a little softer, but I am no expert, everything is subjective.

Toyo T1-Rs are very good, had them on my mondeo, now have vredestein sportrac 3, and to be honest, not much difference between the two.
You will be getting a good tyre if you get them.

I know Toyo get a good write up but I've had Falken FK-452s since the summer and I was stunned by the wet grip I got from day one. My previous were admittedly Fate (cheap) but it's at least as good as the goodyears I got on the car.

Now we're getting the cold weather I've not noticed much drop in performance, except when it snowed, and the wear is looking good, should get 15k out of them.

Sods. When I went out to the car tonight, it turns out that the tyre size is actually 195/60/R15 and it seems Camskill dont have TR-1s in that size. They have the CF1 but I think I read somewhere they aren't as good.

Most people find Falken 452s and Toyo T-1Rs to be almost identical, infact, most seem to prefer the 452s.

Had T1-Rs on my Impreza STi and they were excellent, then had some on the M3 and they were poor so it's difficult to make generalisations really as what suits one car may not suit another

Don't bother with the CF1s - they're awful. Wet weather grip, particularly wet weather braking is horrendeous. You'll find yourself sliding on the road even after a brief shower.

Without even reading this post, I have just said pretty much the same to Dave over MSN.

The CF1's used to understeer like a bitch especially on roundabouts in the wet, the cars front end would just slide. I bought them thinking I'd got a good performance alternative to the T1-R's since they didn't do these tyres on stock Zetec rims at the time. Oh how I was wrong, I only use Eagles now.

I can get Premium Contact 2's fitted for about £130 so I am thinking I might just suck up the extra payout to stick with waht I know and already have on the rear wheels; they get decent reviews as well.

Got the T1-R's on my GTA, and they suck, big time. 225/40/18's, this is.

Sidewalls are way too soft and you can feel the flex when you're making the intial turn in. Horrid. Do a search on the internet, and there's plenty of people moaning about them - EVO, Impreza, 350Z and ITR forums popped up on my search.

Ditching them after christmas.

Strangely, I didn't have this problem when I had them on my Elise, I guess its a weight thing.

i know its accross the river from you but http://www.elitedirect.com in rainham essex is generally cheaper than camskill (even with fitting inc).

No price on the tyre you want, says call for price. So i might be wrong, but theyve been cheaper on everything else ive done/looked at. And Good service too.

Just a thought but i've got conti. sport contact 2's on my car 225 40 (maybe 35) 17 I believe.

Why does no one mention these? What are peoples thoughts. I've found them to grip like hell round corners when dry.
No so good in the wet when acelerating but then i've never had anything else on this car to compare.
