did anyone else feel that was totally over the top for a player only staying there for 2 months....

I'm afraid to switch over to SSN after the Villa game cos I know that's all they'll be going on about tonight.

I think being able to play alongside World Class players and at a top European side to push his chances of continuing in the England squad had quite a bearing to be honest Cheets.

lulz, granddad team, farce league, he couldn't even walk into the Stoke squad. Not only that the US of A football league is in end of season so does that mean a player should be resting, taking it easy, flying half way across the world for a press conference and getting ready for professional football, LA Gal will have a nice few quid in the bank for this.

Awesome player but he is never going to beat Moore. Simple as and if he does it would be an outrage to what Moore did.

it would be an outrage? jesus mate, put things in perspective will you

he does talk some nonsense but in that I agree, only because he provides money his caps number is being artificially raised knocking other legends out of their spot who worked hard and deserve the acolade. These days theres far more internationals than there was, far more pointless friendlies so its already stupidly easy to get more caps than those people 30 years ago. Beckham hasn't deserved a spot in ages, he's only got the ability to hit a cross if theres no one around him, and dead ball, however nothing else, he's lost what little pace he had, he couldn't go around players in his best days, and he's clearly not match fit.

Young has been in much better form than him for the best part of 3 years now, easily better for 2 and can play the right fine and isn't a situational player he's good for the 90 minutes.

When Beckham plays england embarassingly fall over like little girls around the box and basically only play for Beckham to take free kicks. The simple fact is he will not be fit, playing in a real league or good enough to play in the World Cup in 2 years, so why play him now. He needs to not play so the team get used to playing actual football rather than "get it near the penalty area and flop" so when it comes to the world cup we aren't playing in the same damn way.

Did Young get in the first XI when Beckham was dropped? Did he even make the squad?

I'd never have dropped Beckham from the England squad. It was a stupid decision in the first place. He's one of the most experienced players we have and still makes an impact at any level.

I perhaps wouldn't have started him in as many games but there's nothing wrong with his passing or dead balls still, and for his experience alone he's worth having in the squad.

No Young and Gabby constantly get overlooked, its embarassing. Theres nothing wrong with beckhams dead ball skills, or his crossing, but its situational. We have an attacking line that would prefer to play for freekicks than play to make goals from open play, look at how many open play goals we had during Beckhams best years, when we didn't win freekicks, we were nothing. Its better to have a player that works hard for the full 90 minutes than is good for 2 minutes only if you happen to get freekicks.

Not to mention Young is one of the best deadball kickers in the league right now, he gets a heck of a lot of assists and goals from freekicks, as many as Beckham ever did tbh, but he's far more effective all over the field, he's even very good at getting back to cover.

Much better player than Moore ever was but in a day an age where putting your body on the line isn't the order of the day. I swear you're 60 years old! :p.

Beckham would be the first name on the teamsheet at half the Premier Leagues clubs.

Woah, this is getting silly. It's almost as if you're saying Young is as good now as Beckham ever was, which if that's what you're saying, you're a million miles from being right.

You can't say that Young would be more effective in the England line-up than Beckham. Purely from the fact that Beckham has done it and Young hasn't.

He's not had a chance yet, but could be a complete flop. Some players are average for their club sides but shine for England. Some shine for their club sides but are distinctly average in an England shirt. To coin a phrase 'it is situational'.

The haters love to put him down but at his peak he was a very talented player and i am far from being a Beckham fan, Nokkon is right he would still walk into a lot of Prem teams right now.

Granted he wasn't the most cohesive footballer when moving with the ball at his feet but his crossing and dead ball skills elevated him to world class to which he genuinely was.

Young/Agbonlahor puhhleez ...drunkenmaster just repeats anything he read in the Mirror/Sun (insert bog roll substitute of choice) on a sunday. I know it wasn't a full team nor a decisive game against Hamburg midweek but where was Young in that game.....invisible. Good young players but let's not get ahead of oursleves.

*chuckle* ..but then this is someone who thinks RvP is already better than Bergkamp ever was and Eboue is the 2nd coming.

how many goals has beckham scored in the past year in, how many assists, and how many did young get.

I've never read the mirror in my life and I think i've only read the sun while waiting to get my hair cut. Have you actually watched Young play football? THeres few players in the world who can match him for pace, he has an insanely good freekick which he quite often scores from and sets up many goals from corners/freekicks.

I'm not a beckham hater, but in the past 2 years he's done nothing remotely useful, his few recent england performances he's looked knackered after 20 minutes and that was during his footie season AFAIK. But even at his best the whole team played for him and gave him his chance to shine, most of his contribution came from freekicks and as a whole the team suffered from a distinct lack of ability to score from open play which resulted in us being an incredibly limited team.

Villa are pushing the big 4 hard this year and most of that is down to Young and Gabby, Luke Young and Shorey aren't anywhere near as good as Melberg and Bouma were last year, they are weaker defensively, Petrov isn't really having a great year so far, Coker is doing ok but goes missing frequently. They are a solid well organised side but there's 3 people who are significant in that team, Laursen, Young and Gabby, and a lot of Laursen's goals this/last season came from, Youngs great delivery.

RVP, scored a screamer against Pool, and 2 great goals against Chelsea, is a struggling Arsenal's top scorer, with a simply sublime game against Spurs before he was inexcusable substituted and we fell apart. Scores consistantly well for Holland , is always a threat. Yeah, hes not good.
