My boiler broke on the 12th Dec and I've had to seek accomodation elsewhere so I can wash and be warm, and it's still not fixed as of today, is this grounds for witholding rent or should I forget about it?

As far as I know you can not withhold rent. If you can't agree some compensation from the landlord then seek advice from cab.

Get a bigger duvet and stop being a wet blanket. Also, overclocking your PC more and playing more games will provide a useful auxillery heat source.

if its rented furnished, start breaking up the furniture and get a little fire going to keep warm. they'll soon be out to fix it :)

Sod that I would withhold rent ,it will give him some motivation to get it fixed .

If he complains tell him to take you to court !

It is unlawful to withhold rent and if the landlord does take the OP to court he will get spanked hard by the courts. Your advice is not good.

Tis true, we dont have the heating on in our room because in the evenings our computers churn out so much heat and the girl in the next room has her xbox on so its all good!

The landlord is contractually obliged to maintain the house - if he's in breach of contract you can get some compensation. Typically this is a percentage reduction of the rent - this is what I've had to do in the past and it works out quite well. :) However do not stop paying rent as this will cause you more trouble than it would solve.

having a person in a room will also heat it. and if she's got a plasma TV that'd make a big difference too.

and get her a trampoline, the extra exercise will produce more heat and make for some great entertainment if she takes her bra off :D

My tempestuous advice is to threaten to report him for not paying tax on your rent. It's extremely unlikely that he's declaring it...

Inventory, deposit...

I would think that a house without heating fails to be fit for human habitation and, accordingly, it cannot be rented for profit. I would withold rent.
