Current games that a 4850 can't handle?

As per title, i'm curious if there's any games that the 4850 512mb can't handle atm. The reason i'm asking is that my 8800GTX recently died on me (best card i've ever bought, lasted almost 2 years and still played everything fine) and i'm looking for a replacement.

I had a look at tomshardware benchmarks, but i find them annoying as performance fluctuates on all cards depending on the game you're currently playing and i find it hard to judge a prospective card from them. Plus looking at the benchmark from crysis, the 4850 comes in just under the 8800GTX and the 4870 comes in just above the ultra.

I can just afford a 4870 if i have to, but with the time of year it is i'd rather not unless it's necessary. I run on 1600 x 1200 resolution, the rest of the pc is half decent.. 4gb ram, e6850. I just need a bit of advice before i buy another card from OC as i dont want to end up getting the 4850 and then find out that i can't max out newer games on it. I have £250 spare, but i'd rather spend much less than that if possible.

Be as honest as possible please and no telling me to get the 4870 without telling me why. I know a lot of you are prone to recommending that one right off the bat ;)

Cheers.

Edit - forgot to say that the PSU i'm running is a 520W Corsair, not sure if that'll make a difference as to card choice. I assume that power consumption has continued to climb with each of the new cards that come out.

I've got a HIS4850 and it runs everything fine, although i play in 1280x1024 so it might not be suitable for you. I've also had a lot of texture problems with mine, but i dont think thats a 4850 thing!

no need to worry about the psu - I'm running a 4870, two 1TB F1s and a raptor, and a clocked quad from a HX520 :)

I would say only a couple of frames a sec maybe. If your going to buy an aftermarket cooler, then it might be worth it as the Asus 1gb comes with their aftermarket cooler which isnt bad. The 4000 series run hot. If not, then I would save the £25.

Ordered the this week only one i linked to in my previous post and should be here tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's at least on par with the GTX that crapped out on me when it arrives.

Cheers for the replies folks.

I've found a game it struggles with. X3 Terran Conflict. Then again, that game runs like a dog even on pimped up Core i7 systems with triple 280GTX. :D

Only game i've had problem with was Far Cry 2 where the it used to pause every now and again when the textures were on highest but that may have been a driver issue, other than that an amzing card plays everything on max.

Crysis at 1440x900 at gamer settings runs 10-20 fps which is poor. I dont play Crysis since the gameplay is poor so no worries. Every other game like GTA4, DiRT, Dead Space, Gears of War, etc plays great. I have the Powercolour PCS+ version since its super cool and VERY quiet.

mmmmm thats odd tbh.

Crysis at 1680x1050 at gamer settings runs fine for me, i get about 25-30fps, even at my native res 1920x1200 it runs fine, this is with old drivers, since the drivers have been updated i haven't tryed crysis and warhead because i've finished them..

Stupid thread!

think about it, which game company is gonna make any money selling a game that can't play on ATI's latest mainstream gaming wonder.

Not really having a go at you Pyroblaze but cmon, what have you been reading to even make you think like that?

I blame the fanboys for posting so much **** like "This card is pap" "or it runs like a dog" and the poor nOObling doing his research gets a totally warped perspective of a totally amazing product, that's the only downside to user forums, your at the mercy of dozens of ****wits

Some people think a game is poop if they cannot max every single setting and take the graphic engine into 2010 mode, I'm glad I can do some basic tweaking and then sit back to enjoy the game!

Before i posted the thread i only had the benchmarks on tomshardware to compare it to the GTX with. Hence why i asked for some advice before purchasing it. Tomshardware had it mostly at just under GTX performance and i didnt want to buy a card that was lower performance than what i previously had.

Card arrived about 30mins ago and is installed. Currently testing it out with Ati overdrive to see how much it clocks and i have to say i'm impressed so far. Core 790 is stable in 3dmark, memory i'm in the process of messing with. Have yet to test in games, so hopefully it'll give a marked fps jump.

Holy cow!

I would never overclock a brand new card as I would want to make sure everything was fine, horses for courses I guess but apart from that it would be neat to actually *feel* the overclock having played a few games at stock first.

Anyway have a nice xmas, that's a lovely piece of kit you have there! :)
