I want to upgrade my home server from sbs 2003 to 2008 but when I tried it kept bsod'ing and I believe this is due to hardware as it is an Asus A8N32-SLI and running an Athlon 64 X2 4400+ CPU. This is a 64 bit CPU but one of the early ones so I believe this is my problem.

What I'm after is a motherboard (ATX or E-ATX) that has either server 2008 or sbs 2008 drivers. Been having a good look around at manufacturer sites but no joy. This only success is if I was to buy a HP server from eBay for £400-£500

Any suggestions please?

Hi, I have the same board, similar CPU(4200) and have run Win2008 server full version with no problems, the drivers should load from the HCL. Are you using RAID?

I'm using a HP rebadged Adaptec 6 port RAID card with 4x 500GB drives in a RAID 5 configuration for my data drive but a single 200GB SATA drive for the operation system. It is a PCI-X card but has been running fine in a standard PCI slot under 2003.

HP site doesn't have any drivers but the SBS2008 install had drivers for it.

I managed to get it installed once I'd made a few changes in the BIOS so that it could see 4GB of RAM but it was bsod'ing every 1-2 days and finally died, I then recovered from a SBS2003 backup that I'm currently using.

I have a friend who had issues running RAID on this board, can't remember what exactly but it was to do with the way the controller handle it. Also, I noticed that you're running x64, have you enabled the memory remap in the BIOS, needed for x64 systems?

I have removed my RAID and SCSI cards and tried the reinstall but it still blue screened during install with the error IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL so I have gone through the BIOS and disabled anything thats not needed including the onboard RAID. I am currently re-trying the install.

I had already enabled the Hardware Memory Hole setting, is this the memory remap you were talking about?
