So. I'm not remotely religious, but I fancy the experience. I've driven around and stopped at 3-4 churches, and all of the 'midnight' masses seem to be taking place at 6-8pm. Managed to speak to one priest, and he basically said that it was due to a fear of loutish behavior, drunken retards rabblerousing and so on.

So, my question is.. Does anyone know of a web service/forum or something that offers info on local church service times?. I know there's one or two god botherers on the boards, and I would very much like to find myself a good old fashioned midnight mass. Oh lordy.

Not live in a village then? Pretty sure our village church does. Not been in that place for about 5 years though.

I live near to several villages (kingswinford in the west mids), and it seems like it's a no-go :(. I'm not particularly fussed, but its' a bit of a messed up situation when churches have to decide to close their doors by 9.30..

I'm not religious at all but I promised my parent's I'd go to midnight mass with them each Xmas eve...we are going at Black Friar's tonight here in Oxford where they are studying theology. Not looking forward to it at all really, but at least there are mince pies afterwards.

so your not religious but you find it damn right madness that there is no church open at midnight so you can pray etc?

rrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight

our church is open as usual at midnight :), but we are in a tinyyyy little village where about 80% of the population are above 50 so not much chance of loutish behaviour :)

It's not about prayer for him, obviously. He said it was for an experience. So stfu.

You can't blame for the churches for wanted rid of the drunken masses :(

It's basically why most churches I know have don't have a proper midnight mass anymore :(
