Why is adobe.com acting like it doesn't exist?

Hey all, got a peculiar problem.

Basically, I was having some trouble with Flash Player. So I uninstalled it and went to adobe.com to reinstall.

But I can't get the site to load, at all. I've tried it with my phone and it works, i've asked people on my MSN and they can all access it, so I don't understand why i'm the only one who can't?

All other sites work fine and i'm getting a good speed, 6.5MBit of a possible 8MBit so the line must be good (this is on BT).

It's almost like the site just doesn't exist for me. Tried rebooting, resetting the router, clearing cache etc. - nothing helps.

Any suggestions?

Are you blocking it in your hosts file? (certain Photoshop installations will do this ;))

Open c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and have a look.

I've just done a fresh install, there's only World of Warcraft installed!

I've tried both XP x64 and Vista x64 - neither will open the site. I'm also on my MacBook now, that won't open the site either (Safari).

And the direct IP doesn't work either, I just get the same error.

It's almost like BT are blocking it at their end, but I don't understand why they would do this? In all fairness, the site has always been slow to load, but now it just won't open at all.

Are the ISP my next port of call?

The reason I asked was it wouldn't be the first time a machine's been set to 192.0.0.0/8, at which point the machine thinks the Adobe site's local and doesn't even try the router.

What does a traceroute look like to the IP?

this is interesting that the direct ip wont load, that rules out a dns fault, local or remote.

maybe adobe have blacklisted you for some reason. confusing you with a dos attacker.

tried connecting to modem directly?

You mean without the router? Sadly I don't have the ADSL modem anymore, it broke a long time ago and I just threw it out with the rubbish.

What is the MTU value set to in your router? It will probably be on the PPP dialup settings page.

I think the correct value for PPPoA is 1500 but try lowering it to 1472 and if that doesnt work try 1400.

Looks like a problem beyond your network so you will need BT/adobe to resolve this.

As a temporary fix you use a web proxy - of which there is about a million!

a quick google came up with http://www.surfunblocksites.com/

That works! Is it safe to install flash/shockwave/reader through that site?

I guess this definitely means BT are blocking it then? Any idea why they would do this?

And now it works as normal.

WTF?

[Edit] And it's gone again.

[Edit 2] It's working again, but when I try to install stuff, it just crashes the browser.

Okay, this problem has surfaced again.

I've also found another site which exhibits the same behaviour, www.mechcommander.org.

Should I get on the phone to BT? If I disconnect my LAN and plug in my broadband dongle I can access both sites, but obviously it's costing me a lot more and is a fair bit slower.
