Blackstar 5watt combo?

I went to see a mates band the other week and he had a fantastic sound.
I saw the name Blackstar on the combo but knew nothing about them until he said it was ex Marshall engineers.

Yeah, the Blackstar Artisan range are held in very high regard, I've never seen a bad review of a Blackstar product, just wondered if anyone had first hand experience of the 5watter.

It sounds like my ideal amp, dual channel, all valve and apparent the speaker emulated line out is amazing.

Havent heard of them before but they look pretty quality.
Do you know if they are PCB or handwired?

PCB I would imagine although don't quote me on that.

Sounds pretty good to me, apparently this is taken from the line out and only a little reverb has been added.

I'm really interested in trying one out.

Same here but I really need to sell some amps before I buy any more, I'm not even a good guitarist it's getting a bit silly at my house with a DSL401, Vibro Champ XD, Valve Jr, Behringer V-amp head, Marshall 2 x 12 cab and a Vox AC30.

I think I may get shut of the Behringer the cab and bizarrely the AC30 which although it's great really doesn't get that real AC30 character until it hits high volume (too loud for the house).

That'll make way for a combo Blackstar HT-5 and maybe a 1 x 12 Orange cab.

I heard that the Blackstar head and cab come in at like £317 or something. I've not researched that, I could be wrong.

I have the DSL201, which has actually starting to become pretty defining for me in terms of my "sound". But I'd happily try one of these and buy it if I liked it.

My next amp will probably be one of these if I can find one or Super/Vibro Champ XD.

As for Black Star quality, I've seen so many artists using them. They seem to have a very good rep.

I don't think I'll bother with the stack version, I think the combo and a Vintage 30 equipped cab would be a better bet then I'd still have something to play the Epi Jr through and it would also be a lot more portable with it's own speaker.

I was looking at the orange tiny terror and the zvex nano, mainly I wanted something my engl cant do. I think the HT5 looks pretty promising, I cant wait to try one in person.

Wouldn't 5W be rediculously quiet? Or am I being dense?

Far from it, a 5 watt valve amp can knock your socks off :)

It's not going to be deafening through a 1 x 10 speaker but it'll be enough to make you wince :)...especially with me behind the guitar.

My 5watt Valve Jr is much louder than my 30watt Crush 30r ever was. (through a 2 x 12)

There's something an ENGL can't do? Never actually played through one but I thought they were the dogs danglies?
too much power, too heavy to take around. tonewise, its great even at low volumes but the power is overkill. besides having another amp will be useful for doubling and getting my unique sound!

Really?

All my experience is going from a 15W Fender Solid State amp to a 150W Spider II Solid State amp, and the volume difference was immense.

To be honest, the reasons confuse me to this day but there have been several discussions as to why it is but basically wattage has little to do with volume, I guess it's because a watt is actually a measure of electrical power not sound output, both amps operate in a different manner and a good valve amp will give a bigger sound and increased percieved volume.

There are many bods who can explain it beeter than me but 5watts valve doesn't equal 5 watts solid state.

Have you ever played through a decent valve amp? If not...DON'T:D once you've heard them, you can't go back to solid state:)
