Hi, i just installed a clean install of Xp 64bit and updated my driver's in sp1.
This gave me my HD Sound and ATi 1900XT graphics driver's, but just the default one's. I updated to sp2 and restarted and it BSOD. So i did a system restore and that fixed that issue, but im back to square one with the sp1 and basic driver's so i install .net2 and ati Catalyst suite for x64 and then updated for sp2 and it worked fine.

Then i installed BF2 now i know this game has rubbish screen support specially for my 40inch 1368x768 720p Tv but it worked fine on 32bit system. so i put all the graphics up high and used a highest res that worked, same as 32bit but the screen started flickering up and down grabing bit's of picture from the top and flickering it in the middle and so on.

so i put it on the 800x600 res and it worked fine so i quit that and turned my pc off i turn it on 2day and i get 4bit colour with a 640x480 display? so unistalled the catalyst driver's and windows sorted me out again and it workes fine now? i have yet to go back into BF2 to do more test atm.

Does anyone know what this could be, is it just ATi being wierd?

GOD @%$# Game just crashes now after it loads :( why does nothing ever work. i reinstalled the graphics driver's it still flickers at high res so i used 800x600 and it just loads and closes the game completly :(. gonna try repatching see if that was the problem as its an automatic installer package for the complete BF2. i really am fed up with my pc never ever get a sapphire motherboard pile of c#@p driver's always fail.

FINALLY!!! after 3 long freaking hour's it works. if i turn my pc off 2night and turn it on to 4bit colour again im gonna throw it out the window.

Thanks for the... Nevermind.

hope the problems sorted, just sounds like ATi's drivers being an utter pain in the arse.

and if you do end up throwing it out the window, give me a heads up :)

XP 64bit has a pretty bad reputation for kicking up a fuss with drivers. From what I've seen it's pretty unstable.

It's not ATi drivers not working in 64bit, it's most probably XP 64bit. I've been on Vista 64 bit for around a year now and graphics drivers have been fine.

I'm now on windows 7 64bit, and again graphics drivers are fine. How come you changed to 64bit XP? Extra RAM? Any chance you can run Vista 64bit, or swap back to 32bit XP?

well i needed a reinstall and i have this xp 64bit disk so thought i give it ago. but again BF2 screen is flickering so im gonna take it BF2 doesn't like 64bit but everything else works perfect thats the really annoying bit. I only got BF2 last week so im not happy supose a reinstall of the standard 32bit :(

I have got a disk of Vista but i didnt like it at all, and that got nuked ages ago. Nothing worked either all the 64bit driver's wer pain in the ass. but xp 64bit has been alright apart from BF2. What's 7 like i didnt even know it was released yet. is it anything like vista and if so i dont want to touch it :) it ugly rubbish and the file system leave's little to dessire. it was one small step for man and one gigantic leap back for Microsoft. granny icon's no CMD shutdpwn after 10min's and the filesystem setup. if they had kept the icons and the structure of xp it would have been ace, but unfortunally not being the case i rather stick needles in my eye's

No prob's thanks anyway, found a nice copy of MCE gonna use that so i can record tv with my usb Digital tuner. shame xp pro couldnt be compatable with mce application, but thats microsoft and their wierd ways made it only work on xp home :(

People still using XP ?????

Most still are according to the latest steam report I saw. I don't have any need for Vista or any of the features. When I have to use it in college I just get frustrated with the UAC and other new things. Why oh why did they have to change the way you overwrite files when copying. What's with the humongous buttons that are so hard to read. What's wrong with "Yes to all" instead of clicking "do this for the next n files" then clicking the overwrite.

Just so many things in Vista that I can't stand. I will be staying with XP until the new version of windows comes out and I'll see what that's like.

I use to get this when i was on Nvidia with all drivers after the 175 series, so i did a re-install of windows and also put sp3 on (as i was only on sp2 as well), then i heard after that, that sp3 fixes it (so i didn't need to do a re-install, as i could have just put that on to fix).

Not sure if sp3 is out for XP64 though.

Im still using XP here as ive no need for a faster running dx9 (dx10), as it runs fast enough anyway.:)

I had a few issues with XP 64bit that I solved by creating a slipstreamed disc containing SP2, all the current windows updates and .NET

I used nlite btw

Secondly, BF2 is a bit annoying for widescreen, but it's a simple enough fix

Modify your shortcut on the desktop to be something like this

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1368 +szy 768

Thanks just installed Mce, Bit of a weird setup. It said i was installing xp pro then licence agreements said mce then the xp notes that flash up during installation said xp pro. so i wasnt sure what i was installing lol, now My computer properties says xp media center edition and magic jelly bean cd code finder says xp pro lol. ??? guess its xp pro media center edition?? o im so confused. at least my tv tuner card is working. :)

Do you still live in a cave aswell?

I was using it as an example of the many "helpful" features they added or changed in Vista. I like XP just fine and seeing as Vista offers no performance improvements I'm quite happy with XP for now :)

this is why i bought an nvidia 280gtx instead of a ati 4870x2....

Given that someone else with an nVidia card said they had the same problems your point is a bit moot.

It seems to just be something wrong with XP 64bit.
