Was Jesus born on 25th December?

christmas for me isnt a religious affair at all, its about families, having fun, and giving stuff...and receiving the odd gift too :P

I think for most people in this country, this now holds true.

I'm pretty sure that that the following points were never intended:
1. Drinking vast quantities of alcohol, to a point you become drunk, pass out or vomit. My Christian friends tell me that Jesus was actually tee-total. If this is true, then the alcoholism that occurs during Christmas (which at its, is supposed to be a religious affair), makes a mockery of what the champion of Christianity (Jesus) stood for.
2. The parties associated with the Christmas period, during which time people behave very badly and end up having sex (usually helped by the alcohol) with people who they have no intention of marrying or being with, long term. Again, I doubt Jesus would've approved of this.
3. Then there is the outright commercialism that Christmas seems to have evolved into. It is now a time of spending vast amounts of money, on items that you really have little use for and at any other time of the year wouldn't dream of spending money on.
4. Lest we forget that people decide that Christmas time is the time of year where they feel they should eat as much as physically possible. My understanding is that gluttony is considered a sin and if my understanding is correct gluttony is a sin that is committed in a major way on Christmas day.

I've been brought up as a Muslim, though I don't believe in God and don't follow Islam. However, I am respectful of the laws and rules that have been passed down from generation to generation. Religion usually encompasses these rules/laws and I'm pretty sure that our forefathers (or even religious Prophets (if they really did exist)) never intended Christianity to be (ab)used in the above mentioned ways.

Anyway, these are just some observations, from an outsider, looking into Christianity and its religious festival.

BS.

He was a boozer, He drank at the last supper, He turned water into wine. And Wine and Grapes are mentioned by him 100s of times.

You sir have "those" Types of Christian Friends.

I am Christian but i see no problem with drinking except to Excess. I just dont drink due to not liking it and personal reasons:)

If he existed at all...

If he didn't exist at all...

I hate all this friggin commercialism, thats why I prefer the Catholic-Orthodox Christmas. No ********, no one on this forum being a manbasher "UH JESUS DIDNT EXIST OMFG ITS A MADE UP FAIRYTALE", no christmas rush. Oh, and to the OP, how could you have not known that!?

What's wrong with a commercialised Christmas?

No-one's forcing you to buy anything and it beats having to go to Church or do anything slightly religious.

Because it sucks tbh, just a reason to spend money. Oh, and as Tefal says, "only for non Christians", that phrase applies to "beats having to go to Church or do anything slightly religious". To which the typical response on here will be "you sux and you're not alpha enough". Oh well!

I wouldn't say that, I'd think that Christ would be happy about a day which people use to show their love for one another even if they had usurped a religious holiday for it.

But would Jesus be happy to see all the above mentioned points [see my post, points 1-4]?

He allegedly died for the sins of man. Man has gone on to commit further sin, using the Christmas period, as an excuse.

Surely he did not have imagined that this would go onto happen in the future?
