Looking roughly at cars and just wondering. Are there any sites out there that give you prices which you should be able to realistically by cars at. Parkers have this however it seems kind of random as theres a load of cars on auto trader for ~£1.5k however parkers say £800! Unless everyone on AT is overprised?

Also dealers/car sellers talk about "book value" whats this book and how do you get one?

Cheers!

this :)

A good indication of what cars are genuinely going for is to add them to watch on a well known auction site and see what they end on.

Yes and no :)

a lot of the cheaper cars sold on this well known auction site are bought totally unseen and the person buying them bids up to what they can afford to lose. I sold my ZX on there for about £100 less than it was worth, the guy just bidded, asked no questions and just drove it away.

I wouldn't buy a car like that but hey what do i know :)

This applies to most of the cars on there - people pay an amount which reflects the fact that the condition is variable, etc etc. The value a car can be expected to fetch on Ebay is usually less, often a lot less, than you would be able to sell an excellent condition example of the same car for conventionally.

But it's fair to say most of the cars on there are generally not "excellent examples" as they will be pretty easy to sell :)

People do have bargains from ebay, but just browsing you can spot most of the nails a mile away.
