Hey, i noticed that the 2900GT seems to good for its price, 240 stream processors, GDDR3 memory, quite a fast core, so i think that it's quite a good card for the price.

2900GT

Or is there something im missing?

Comments and critisms welcome, is it worth getting or avoiding?

I read about the 6 pin power connector, and i only have a 300w PSU, so would that create some issues?

i got one for my parents rig - its ok for a cheaper card

draws a lot of power as said

not worth bothering with for higher resolutions than a 19" monitor imo

Specs mean very little these days. It's power hungry, hot running and the 2000 series were not very good when they were released. That is why they were replaced with the 3000 series so quickly. It's certainly not a card i would buy, even for a backup. Look around for a cheap HD3850Pro if you want a half decent card. I got a brand new one for £42 delivered. I have it in my second rig with a E5200 clocked at 3.6Ghz and 4GB of ram. Peak power draw is 165w for the total system so you could run one off your 300w psu providing it's a decent make. Most cards come with a 2x molex to 6pin pci-e adapter these days so you would be able to use the psu even if it does'nt have a pci-e plug.

So ive heard, ive seen a cheap gecube 3850 O.C edition on ebay, for around £60, but thats the cheapest ive found. so for around £60 would that be the best card for the price or?

thanks for the many replies.

For the price you can't really complain to be honest. You're probably not gonna find something as fast for the same price, realistically speaking. Edit: In regards to the 2900 GT that is.

so something like :

HD 4670

would that be much better for its price?

Not particularly. That's coming close to the 8800GT price. You can get those (GT) for around £75 if you look hard enough. Personally i would'nt pay more than £55 for a 4670 and then it would be only if i had no other choice due to the 128bit bus. Here's a 3850 for just under £53. It's B-grade but should be fine as all you really need is the card itself.

Might stick with it.... The price is great, just the fact that it doesn't say the minimum PSU wattage is, although im probably 100w out of what it requires.
