Asus Xonar Essence STX on preorder!

Niiice....pity I can't afford it. I've also started to use my Creative Fata1ty's remote control again which would be an annoying convenience to lose..

The only thing l am worrying about is not be able to hook up my 5.1 speakers on this one. I wonder if it is possible to have the D2 at the same time in the same case for the 5.1 speakers and this one for the headphones.

Yes but I don't think you can get all sounds coming out of both soundcards simultaneously. In the control panel sound app you can tell the Windows (XP or Vista) which card to use primarily. After that, you can then look in the audio options for each program you run that does sound and tell it which card to output sound from. I know Winamp and Media Player Classic allow you to tell it which card to use so you could do, for example, music to headphones and movies to speakers :)

I use two sound cards and you can't get them both to output the same audio at the same time, or I've not found the option yet! :)

I use this set-up so I can have game sounds and use Ventrilo at the same time without being deafened by the game in my headphones.

I know it isn't listed on the specs but it is possible the card will do 5.1 via optical/spdif. If not the HT Omega Claro Halo does, pity nobody sells them in the UK.

I mentioned this in the other thread as well - but anybody knows if this comes with any add on cards, front bays or even an extension cable for the headphone amp? It's quite annoying to think that you have to plug a set of cans into the back of a machine.

I was about to post the exact same comment....

Id love too buy this soundcard but I think without a breakout box which I bet this doesnt come with proberly a headphone extension lead is gonna be needed or so im guessing.

I really do miss the Xfis breakout box they just at least had the sense too do it, tis another reason why im thinking spending £200 on a soundcard and then Xfi 2 will proberly launch straight after hitting the order button.

Judged by the fact that Asus has kept suprising us with their new sound gears, I'm sure if we keep asking, we'll see it on the shielves some day.. ;)

tbh going back on what I said earlier can the Xonar soundcard be hooked up via that HD audio white cable found in the cases to the front headphone jack ?

It maybe a tad insult to connect it to the front of the headphone jack on the front case but perhaps a subsitute.... Its a shame no ones created a front breakout box alternative too hook upto soundcards no real high quality one anyhow.

I think so, from the image linked below I can see there is front audio header on the top of the card. It'll for sure connect to your headphone jack on the front case.

I wanted this soundcard but the insane ports are starting to put me off. To plug a standard set a fullsize headphones into the headphone amp section you'll need to use 2 adaptors (if using the included adaptors) a 2xRCA to 3.5mm socket cable and an adaptor to convert that 3.5mm socket to 6.3mm, what makes it even crazier is that there is a 6.3mm socket on the card that isn't connected to the headphone amp. On top of that if you want to plug in a standard desktop/clip-on mic you'll need to use another adaptor for that as well.

Ah...possibly. I have to say this card is fast becoming a little bit confusing. :p

I'm having a look on Asus' website atm and have found the following about it :

Analog Output Jack:
RCA jack *2 (Front R / Front L), 6.30mm jack*1 (Headphone out)
Analog Input Jack:
6.30mm jack *1 (Shared by Line-In/Mic-In)
Other line-level analog input (for CD-IN/TV Tuner):
Aux-In (4-pin header on the card)
Digital S/PDIF Output:
High-bandwidth Coaxial/TOS-Link combo port supports 192KHz/24bit

Front-Panel Header:
Shared by Headphone out / 2 channels out /
Microphone in S/PDIF Header: Connects to compatiable graphic cards for HDMI output

Does this mean that the only outputs on the card are the small digital one (white back), the red & white L&R (the ones the crappy adaptor plugs into), front panel header (on card itself). Are the two black larger ones the remaining inputs.

I agree HighlandeR, this card would just totally win if there was more for the front of cases. I mean does everybody have adequate internal case equipment for a start? :(

Looking at my case the headphone socket on the front only possesses a green 1/8" mini plug, which means it won't plug into the card itself. I'm hoping there exists something that accepts a 1/8" mini plug one end (female?) and the the other end front panel header. Not sure if does. It would be sweet though if I'm wrong as I have outputs to L&R speakers, and two headphones (one amped and one unamped).

Edit -Cheers just saw that myself g0th2000. ;)
