Hi guys,

Generally, when do Taxi's begin to get hugely expensive and utterly difficult to get hold of on New Years Eve? Need one at about 19:30 but don't fancy paying £million.

Thnx

I don't know about Plymouth but round here you are probably looking at paying slightly over the odds any time on Hogmanay, it usually bumps up further sometime around 11pm though I think for whatever that is worth.

As an aside I don't think you need the apostrophe or capitalisation unless you are talking about a specific taxi although I could be mistaken.

Depends, my take on new years is not many people go to town and that taxis are normally easily to be had so prices are not as expensive.

Every new years eve I have spent at a friends house or village pub so no need for a taxi.

7:30 you should be looking at maybe 1.5x

thanks for reminding me, im going to prebook our taxi from the travel lodge to the club

:)

from the response i just got, its going to be busy, as always, expect double rate

Useful link, thanks.

Interesting the council controls black cab rates it seems whereas the operator of a minicab firm is able to set its own rates. In your experiences, who is cheaper?

normally minicabs round here

Not much to add, apart from if anybody tries to flag down a cab on new years eve, prepare to get ****** on the price.

Last year a cabby charged us £25 to go less than a quarter of a mile. (Why we got the cab for that distance is because it was pouring it down, before anybody asks :p )

It depends, my guess is that they will be on Tariff 3.

Normal day time is Tariff 1
At night after say 11pm (depends on company), they go to Tariff 2
Holidays like New years and Christmas eve, Tariff 3.

Exact price obviously differs from place to place.

Well the guy on the phone has quoted me £9.50 which seems very cheap given I'm sure it was 8 quid the last time I used a cab ages and ages ago, can I hold them to that price now I've prebooked :p
