Hey Guys my dads PC 7600GT is dieing once again, im currently using it to play Left 4 Dead till my Mac Pro Comes. which now could be March-June. he only browses the internet.

so im looking for a cheap Gaming Card that is good as 7600GT if not bit better thats cheap.As i been out of gaming for a long while i have followed the cards so hope you could help! :) all i need it to run is 1204x768 all medium would do as thats what 7600GT does no AA ovb

1GB Crucial Ballstix (might get him 2gb kit)

that is very true i remember them hot thats the reason the 7600GT died maybe not then

3870 doesn't require power does it? i cant seem to find the power cables for the psu :(
 
well which model of psu is it?

the standard pci-e power cables are 6 pin, some 6+2 but not on yours, but if there aren't any you can get molex (wide 3/4 pin connectors, you'll have them deffo) to pci-e.
 
The 2900GT and 3870 both require a power connector.

Although the 2900gt will do fine for L4D at low to mid res.

It can be hot though and noisy depending on how hot it gets.
 
Don't bother with the 8600 really. It's not that great at all, you'd be better off with a 3870 or if you're budget is very low a 2900gt.

Both of those cards will be good at your res :)
Although see if you can stretch for one with 512mb, if you can.

edit i found a 6 pin power connector :D

my budget is endless its just i dont want to pay stupid money when this PC is already 4+ years old. and maybe be replaced with a Mac in next 2 years

Best one at the moment without a power connector would be a 4650/70 as I believe they dont require external power, the 2900/3870 both do. Don't bother with an 8600 as they were a bit of a dissapointment. Could also get a 3650 DDR3 as I've seen them sub £50 and they're not bad, just the 4650 is much better.
 
Just An update,
i recieved the HD3870 - FORCE3D it came with Atric Cooler Attracted!

Now Left 4 dead

Before 3870

AMD 3800+ X2 2.0Ghz
1GB Crucial Ballstix
7600GT 256MB stock OC
HDA Xpolision
580watt Hiper

Settings was 1280x768 all Medium no aa etc 20fps-40fps
(5fp at new settings)

after HD3870
New Settings 1900x1200 (Recommded!)
Shader VHigh
Effect Medium
AF 4x
AA it was on 2x but prefer it off more FPS
fps are 40-90
