Trouble connecting to XBOX Live

'Act' is active... it means it's sending data.

Connecting through the powerline adapters should work so it may be an issue with you modem/router.

What broadband do you have? cable or phone line ... and who with.

Also what is the make and model of the router / modem you have

Are you the only xbox / console in the house

Ah damn, silly question (because I'm new to this) how do I subscribe to XBOX LIVE? I've got my profile and when I try to join XBOX live through the market place I still cannot connect.

I've got cable modem through Virgin and have a wireless router which is a Belkin N1 Mimo, though it's a wired connection from my xbox through the power line to the router. I only have this PC and the XBOX on the network.

It's on my network afaik

Andrew,

Whwn the Xbox Live test fails, select the more Info option. You should see some weird abcxz code (something like that). Take a note of that code and then post it here and google it for the problem.

Hi,

Lucifurr, I'll have a look when I get back from work tonight, thanks for the idea!

DreXeL, It's a brand new console (60gb, the model with the HDMI port).

you still have the old dash board. When it gets to the xbox live testing stage it should prompt for an update if you have a live account or not. Do you see that prompt for update? if you do you need to accept it or it will fail at that stage.

Hi, yes it askes me for this update when I test the connection (after IP etc. is confirmed). When I select yes it stops and then fails at XBOX live.

I know a few people who has this issue and it went away by itself (or so they said), not sure if it is just the sheer number of new 360s. Make sure you have all network settings on automatic and try again a few times.

Andrew, I can't find anything specific to your issue. But if you want to attempt to update to NXE manually and then try connecting then try the instructions on the page below:

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/xbox360/system-update.htm

Dunno how risky this is though.

I think this is just part 1 of the 2 part update (2nd part, Avatars etc, is downloaded via Live).

Worst that will happen is he gets NXE, but cannot download Avatars update. No harm done, really.

May be better to use NXE this way for now, I think the unable to connect messages in NXE give you more details info etc.

p.s. I am 90% certain "ACT" means Activity when in refernce to Network cards/NICs etc.

I now updated the XBOX manually and that went ok, went to run a test connection and I either get the same problem of it can connect to the internet but not live or the NAT is moderate, whatever that means.

Does this mean my ISP (Virgin) have some sort of block???

Yes there is an option to disable NAT but when I do that it ***** the network and I have to reset it. Was on the line to xbox support for an hour and they had no idea, this is really confusing me now!

Thanks for the help here though guys :)

Hi,

I've tried to forward the port 3074 but that didn't seem to work (whether I done it right is another question). I've also been told to enable UPnP by a site which suggests this is a problem for Belkin N1 routers.

Hi Andrew,

Does your router have a DMZ option? If so, can you put your Xbox in the DMZ and then try the test again?

Andrew
