Nvidia's 40nm Desktop GPUs Line-Up For 2009

According to some documents VR-Zone has seen, Nvidia is preparing move to 40nm process technology for their top to bottom GPU line-up by Q2 next year.

This transition to 40nm will first take place with their high end GT212 GPU in Q2 follows by the mainstream GT214 and GT216 as well as value GT218 in Q3. GT212 will be replacing the 55nm GT200 so you can expect pretty short lifespan for the upcoming GTX295 and GTX285 cards.

Is it just me or is the naming convention getting stupidly complicated now?

GT212 > the other GTs with higher product codes, but the iGT209 is an integrated chip.

whats a gt200b is in it the same as gt260 55nm and 285 55nm?

The same 260/280's that are out now, only they're moving from a 65nm chip size to a 55nm chip size which means less power use and lower costs for Nvidia. Other than that it's the same.

That's because they are Nvidia code names. They aren't actually called that when they hit the shops as you can probably tell from the fact the GT200 chips are called GTX260/280 in stores.

That being said it would be nice if they could use a similiar method to ATI. They have got it right imo.

They should make the poor card the Gaybo edition, and the best one the Awesome Extreme GT, no one will want the gaybo edition.

The names are simple enough, what's more troubling is that there isn't a single one of those cards that could be attractive in any way.

Quater 2 of 2009, 12/4 = 3

so 3rd to 6th month of 2009 (april may and june)
