Looking for a 'netbook'and got it narrowed down to one of these 3 but can't decide which.

Dell Mini 9 - + Looks nice, SSD storage, cheapest, decent touch pad
- Smallest storage, is the 8.9 screen size too small?, battery life

Lenovo S10 - + Another one that looks good, decent storage, larger screen, second cheapest
- Battery life not as good as the samsung

Samsung NC10 - + Immense battery life, decent storage
- Worst looking out the bunch imho, most expensive

It's only to be used really for web browsing and the odd video, really just for chucking in a bag to take wherever we go rather than bringing the big laptop which is just too bulky.

Just not too sure on the aesthetics of the Samsung, I love how Lenovo's are built so am tempted by one of these

Not sure if the Dell screen would be too annoying being that inch smaller, although I've been told an inch too small doesn't make a difference in the past, or was she just being polite :p

Have the NC10 here for 1 week now and I'm finding I'm using it more than my PC!
Agree with you, it is expensive. However I think it looks very good, certainly better looking than the Dell. Can't comment on the Lenovo as I've not seen it in the flesh.

Another bonus is its extremely quiet in operation.

only reason battery on the Lenovo is not as good as the Samsung is because its the 3-cell battery not a 6-cell like the Sammy so technically the Samsung is cheaper. My 3-cell says about 3.5hours on full charge.. So the 6-cell will be good too. lol but to save waffing around im just gonna say Samsung NC10 unless you really dont like the looks.

i dont regret getting my S10e one little bit, very happy with it :) (2gb ram upgrade was only £14 though the 6-cell batt upgrade is going to cost abit)

Think I'll have to take a look at the Samsung again this week when I pop into town, on paper it's the best but just need to make sure I don't despise the looks/build

Got my samsung NC10 2 days ago and i love it, you can put a bigger hard drive and add more RAM if needed and its very easy to do.

If your buying it Instore most of them do the Price match option, try and find it cheaper someplace else then say to them i want it for that price! worked for me and i got my NC10 for £290, saved £30, and 3 other people heard me and did the same! saved them all over £100 total

Iv been debating which one to get for a while as well. Im pretty sure its going to be the NC10 but i read in either stuff or t3 that end of jan there are gonna be new revisions of most brands so not sure whether to hold out for that?
Jamesdavid would you be able to tell me which stores you got to price match? Obviously not on here but email in trust. :)

Cheers

BA

I say the NC10 is the best looking of the lot, but that is personal opinion. Battery life is great and I actually prefer having a regular hard drive in it with more space as I think SSD is still a new tech that hasn't really matured yet.
I think the new revision of the NC10 just adds the mobile internet slot for adding your sim card i think.
The only things I would like changed or added to the NC10 is to get rid of the glossy finish on the top of the lid of the screen. The matt finish on the rest of the laptop looks great.
Would also like the option to overclock like the wind can.

Since using Lenovos for the last year or so with work they just seem so sorted with the design and build, still can't decide :)

I would like to NC10 to also have a glossy screen as it would look really good!

I've still kept my plastic over my screen to give it that effect lol

lol James.
These are the reasons i went for the Lenovo S10e.. matt lid and glossy screen. That with along with the build/style i think its probably the best looking one.. Hotly followed by the Sammy NC10 of Course! :D

lol nice thought, wonder if that'll work on the wife...

"well the Ferrari engine is better than the one in the Clio so technically the Ferrari is actually cheaper"

Sadly doesn't work like that, the Lenovo is cheaper, just that it has an 'inferior' part :)

to be the same spec netbook the samsung would be cheaper.

its a lower class component, not inferior. Lithium is still Lithium when i last checked my periodic table, nice try.

your comparing a battery to engine is slightly wrong analogy. engine would be the cpu duh

you have strange logic m8 :p

If I wanted the same spec as an NC10 then guess what, I'd be buying the NC10 no questions. Other things about the Lenovo make it attractive like the touchpad seems better and it has an express card slot. How much would it cost for me to add those to the samsung? :)

If you'd have said the NC10 was better value I would have agreed, but cheaper it is not.

Inferior can well be used to describe a 3 cell over a 6 cell as it offers less value than the 6 cell, or that it "acts or performs in a way that is comparatively poor or mediocre" to the 6 cell. I've not once mentioned the battery tech so no idea why you've gone into that. Infact if you look at the definition of the word inferior the first entry for it on most sites goes along the lines of "lower in station, rank, degree, or grade (often fol. by to): a rank inferior to colonel.", I would say that equates to something that is 'lower in class' myself.

The car things was purely for illustration, I apoligise that the parts I used do not map directly to a computer, will try harder next time.

My post was supposed to be rather light hearted yet I feel you've taken it personally, but at least we agree the Lenovo looks the best :)

Sounds interesting, but i am curious to know in which store did you see them for £290. I understand that it has to be in store not online, right?

@ Jamesdavid3

also did the more expensive store check the other's website or something to confirm the price? i've been checking out a number of stores, but don't seem to find any selling this machine for £290... ;(

i didnt take it as lighthearted but hey least we agree on something lol :)

mine cost £324 delivered with 2gb ram upgrade.. 6-cell dont seem to be in the UK yet, think thats going to cost another £50 at least.

:)
