2.0/2.1 systems

I have been thinking of a 5.1 system, but I might invest in a 2.0/2.1 system instead as I'm mainly after an upgrade in sound rather then a surround sound system.

What are my options? Are there any good systems about, or is it a choice between PC systems or an amp and speakers?

I would prefer a system with a remote though so I don't have to get up every time I want to adjust the volume or turn the speakers off. Also, space is of a premium, so large satellites or bookshelf speakers aren't really an option.

Amps can have remotes mate, although I'll let someone more knowledgeable give the suggestions.

Indeed, but I'm not sure if there any speaker sets that'll be compact enough for me really.

Not got any pictures, but I'm thinking of satellites similar in size to the ones that seem to come with most low end 5.1 systems. So ~20cm in height or thereabouts.

Been reading up on the Onkyo HTX-22HD system. It seems to fit my requirements perfectly and is also getting some good feedback over at avforums. Anyone on here got a set?

Not yet, I'm off on holiday in a couple of weeks so I'll pick them up sometime after I get back.

My dad bought some of these the other day and he says he loves them. I haven't heard them in person but he is happy!

He didn't want 5.1 but the Onkyo offers the ability to add a centre speaker (and rears if he ever changes his mind). It is also more compact than a separate AV receiver, which was important to him.
