Wiring a new aerial cable - advice

I am trying to attach some ends for my aerial cable but dont seem to be getting a signal with it.

Is there anything that would short it if I wired wrong, as I have tried several times.

Like is it better to have more copper wire exposed, or its not supposed to touch the casing?

make sure the copper braid isnt touching the inner conductor

What Lee said. Mine was touching when i wired mine, so i had to undo the end and do it again

The conductor is the solid copper wire which runs through the centre of the cable.

Yeah well thats what I thought. There is no wire touching that but it still refuses to work. Strange.

Edit: It doesnt even run from the working aerial point to the tv. So I must be doing something wrong. But it looks exactly like the picture that you have shown above.

If you get no signal at all (try analogue rather than digital) then I would suggest the problem lies elsewhere as even a very shoddy wiring job will get you some kind of signal.

Is the aerial pointing in the correct direction?

Get a multimeter and check that there is no continuity between the outer shielding and the inner core.

did it work before you tried putting the connector on? if you touch the bare copper to the input on the tv does it do anything then? you should have some sort of signal then or the prob is elsewhere. Are you using the right input on the tv?

What type of aerial are you trying to do, is it the F-Type as above or the Coaxial type or some other type?

I mean what type is it as there's a few different ones, I know how to assemble most of them but not sure what they're all called tbh.

As far as I know the traditional coax plug is the one attached to the end of a traditional TV aerial, or FM aerial. But then there's the F-Type which is used for other types of aerials such as DAB aerials.

A piccie of the type the OP is trying to assemble might be better than trying to name it.

The cable says `coazial cable rg6u 75 ohm` on it. Is that the wrong kind?

The aerial is fine as this is an additional line that I am putting in for another room.

And the connector is the belling one as in the last link.

Edit: I have now done it exactly like the one in the link and will try tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the advice. Hopefully I will only need to return inorder to say thanks its working.
