For £900 I would look the change the parts I've put in bold, and then see how much you have left if you want to change the case/mouse/keyboard etc

Firstly don't change the 4870 Sapphire for a 260 GTX, they perform on a very similar level.

I think this all comes down to what your looking to improve, do you overclock? Would you be Interested in Overclocking? Its pointless looking at going over to Intel 775 if your not clocking.

I would prob look at:

specme30.12.08.jpg

+ Phenom II 940 (3Ghz Dual Core, 8MB Cache, Unlocked Multi) when released on 8th Jan (Should be around £230ish Mark)

Oh and Vista Ultimate or Home Prem 64bit if cash left over :)

Second Graphics Card is for Crossfire with current card.

nothing wrong with your graphics card infact its waay overkill for a 19" lol

definitely need to upgrade the screen... 22" or 24" - up to £300
what sound speakers you use? maybe a nice 5.1 sound system - £200
E8400 cpu - £140
P5Q mobo - £100
2gb extra ram - £50

all within £900 budget :p

just some ideas

Thanks for the Input guys, I have been thinking about a larger monitor for sometime now. The Keyboard, and Mouse are perfect as they're only about a Month old lol. I'm not really into my Overclocking I just tend to build the PC and use it as it is.

It's going to be playing mostly ArmA II when that comes out, and more likely the future releases. Its either upgrade this PC, which imo does'nt need upgrading right at this very second (Although 24" does sound very nice)

Or buy myself a new set of CDJ's. And for those who are wondering I'm selling all my old Vinyl and have been quoted £900 on the price ... apparently some of it is quite rare!

your graphics card is great, no point getting a gtx260, that would be a pointless downgrade :p

get a larger decent 24" monitor

and some more memory would be handy

Get some CDj400's and keep the change. Or put the extra to it and get a pair of CDj1000's.

Video Card:
ATI Radeon HD 4870 Sapphire -> 260 GTX

Eh??

The 4870 performs better in the majority of games than a 260 GTX - at the very worst its equal!

I'd get a Raptor as your boot drive, upgrade the RAM to 4GB 1066 and go to a 64bit OS.

Spend the money on a really good monitor and run another 4870 in crossfire. The Antec 900 will fit both no probs, your mobo might need an updage tho.

That system will last you no probs - i doubt you'll even need 900quid for that too.

Leaving £100 for vista 64bit Home premium.
If that's a legit retail version of xp then get vista upgrade £60ish
Or look for a 2nd hand copy of vista retail for £100ish
Or get windows xp retail £40ish + vista upgrade £60ish.

At a latter date you can then just throw in another 4870 or upgrade to a different gfx card.

Hey, it is a legit version of XP :) To be honest I'm not a big fan of Vista so would be happy sticking with XP. Unless it severely limits the hardware that I'll be buying? The PC will be used mostly for gaming if that helps anyone to configure it better, also I prefer Headphones to Speakers for gaming purposes :) Also interested in upgrading the case to a P182. My Antec 900's cable management is poor and gets dust on to easily. Unless there are other cases that one recommends?

unless you have 64bit xp then yes it will limit you hugely. also no dx10 which isn't a huge problem at the moment but is increasing in use. As well as dx11 coming out in 2009 which for most features is backwards compatible with dx10.
Why don't you like vista?
It's the only way to go and with 6GB of memory superfetch is awesome.

Trouble is £900 is on the knife egde, between c2d and i7. Personally I would get i7. Mobo and chip are only a tiny bit more expensive. It's just the ram. But it gives you much better future upgrade routes.

I7 you wouldn't be able to afford a new case.

How does 32 / 64 Bit differ? I'm not against Vista, its just all my buddies use XP and its what I know. Does Vista really offer increased performance?

32bit can only handle 4Gb of memory. but that's total memory. So if you gfx card has 1GB of ram on it. Then it will only be able to see about 2.8Gb of RAM.

Vista is actually slightly slower but only a couple of frames per second. But there's little point buying xp-64. Superfetch is great and means common apps load instantly. The os looks great and feels snappier. Vista media centre is also very good ande was the main reason I upgraded.
But something you have to make your own mind up about. Some people love it, some hate it.

I have to be honest and say I've never owned an ATI card and had no idea how that one performs :o But if it is roughly equal to the GTX 260 then theres definately no need to upgrade the gfx. :)

To be honest I'm not a big fan of Vista so would be happy sticking with XP.

I was the same, perfectly happy with XP which did everything I needed too and didn't really like vista. However I took the plunge to Vista Ultimate 64 a few months back and I don't regret it, it runs everything now just like XP did and I've had no problems with it. Definately go for Vista 64 with that new setup :)
