I seem to be getting awful performance with this and I'm not sure why.

I'm running everything max/4*AA and am getting between 30-40fps (mostly 30 ish).

Is this correct? I'm sure I got more on my 8800GTX.

I've got two GTX8800's running DiRT with Quad 9650. AFAIK, this game really is a CPU hog, so i would say it is your CPU limiting you perhaps? (what overclock you got?). I remember putting a GTX8800 in my older FX-55 system (socket 939, 2.6 ghz), and got 15 frames in multi car mode - wether 800 res or 1680, it was always the same,(unplayable) so my CPU was holding me back, not the card.

What res do you use BTW?, and does it run the same at a lower res than a higher one?.

Do you have an X-Fi?

If yes, try this thread. It didn't eliminate the problem, but it helped a great deal for me. Also make sure you have the latest drivers for gfx and sound obv.

Make sure you have the latest patch (v1.22 - need 1.2 installed first I think) and you can also try the securom fix for dirt (google that one).

Try the game without the 'Ultra' settings, these can sometimes cause really bad performance over high with little difference in quality.

Aside from that, i'd just live with it. The game was always buggy, but Grid proved the foundation was solid, as it performs much better than Dirt. Over 30fps is fine for Dirt anyway, it's plenty playable.

Only other thing i'd suspect is the good ol' ATI drivers, they seem to have caused a lot of probs recently, no?

It's not just X-FI's - the default settings for sound often need turning down for onboard sound too. It's this that causes the lag in multi car races. Took me 6 months before I stumbled across it on the official forums !

My Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz & 8800GTX with an X-fi can play Dirt at full. I had similar problems when I was dual core with the same setup (although it was AMD). I would be amazed it your Q6600 was causing that much of a bottleneck.

Yer the new engine was very good but very CPU hungery and had the odd problems. I didn't think it worked with crossfire/sli but seems like I'm wrong!! Anyway, GRID arrived with a revised engine and it flowes a lot better than DiRT :)
