Getting annoyed now, I have 2 in there, 1 blew yesterday morning that tripped my electrics and then the other blew this morning. I've only lived there since August, the place is a year old and I'm sick of replacing the bulbs every month. I don't overload my sockets or anything, I only have my TV, DVD player, HiFi and a lamp in there.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

If it's a ceiling or wall light (rather than a table lamp that's plugged in) then it will be on a completely different ring than the plug sockets. So it shouldn't be relevant that the TV, DVD, etc aren't overloading anything.

The tripping of the 'fuse' is most likely caused by the bulb blowing. Mine does this and it's quite normal if it is the cause. However, that doesn't explain the frequently blowing bulbs. It could be a dodgy pack but if it does it with bulbs from another pack then it could be a problem with the ceiling rose or wiring.

I'd do this myself (one at a time to see if they make a difference):

1) Try a bulb from a different pack.
2) Change the ceiling rose.
3) Change the switch.

If that doesn't work then I'd be looking at the voltage and ampage with a meter or following the cable back under the floor to see if there is any damage. Or calling an electrician of course.

If it still blo

my telly plus lamp was playing up a while back and modem ect ect it was just a loose connection behind the wall plug

Dodgy lamp? if it''s tripping the trip switch something is wrong.

Not necessarily true, if it's running GU10 spots cheaper and older bulbs often fail to a short circuit that will trip the circuit breaker, this is becoming less common as the bulbs are now being made more often than not so that they fail to an open circuit.

The most likely option if you ask me is dodgy bulbs, we had loads go in our third bedroom but once I went out and got a new box of spares the problem went away and they are now lasting as long as would be expected.

I got this a lot for a few weeks after my dad died. It was bloody scary. About 4 or 5 times around the home. Never seen anything like it before or since.

I had this happen with a light in my hallway in a place I was living at a few years ago. Bulbs just constantly blew. An electrician came around to look at it and said there was nothing wrong. Just make sure you use decent quality, branded bulbs.

You find a lot of modern electric distro boards are very very sensitive,

We recently got ours upgradded at home, to power a new garage, and when my perents psu went that took the whole house trip, same with bulbs, they will trip the lighting ring.

Our older board would never do that.

Breeny, you are a knob my dear lol :p

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I'll be going home later this afternoon so will try those options out :)
