Hi there,

The lock on the drivers door of my Fiat Doblo van has become stiff, it's not very smooth and easy to get the key in and out of the keyhole.

I have the door card off at the moment as was investigating speaker mounting possibilities.

I am thinking of swapping the lock barrel from another door as a short-term fix but what about long term? New lock from Fiat or just take the barrel to a decent lock smith to get it fixed? Or is there something I can do myself?

Happy new year,

Chris

I had this issue on a 2000 mondeo boot lock

I just sprayed some WD-40 into the lock and put the key in a few times and done this again and again until it was fine.

You can remove the barrel, get another seccy hand one, then dismantle both and arrange the levers to suit. :)

It's fiddly, but greatly satisfying once you have done it.

Try WD first though - chain lube is far too thick. :)

WD40 will fix it in the short term, but will wash out any existing lubricant in the lock, so a dry lubricant (e.g. PTFE based) is a better idea. Don't use chain lube unless you like a sticky, greasy mess on your keys.
