I have an old Abit NF7-S V1.1 motherboard in my system thats getting on for about 5 years old now.

The Northbridge cooling fan is not suprisingly sounding rough and really needs replacing. Anybody got any suggestions ? ?

See if you can get hold of the zalman northbridge cooler, I've got one and it's great. Exact same thing happened to me with my NB fan on the NF7-S 2.0

Cheers guys....

Had looked at something like that but that would mean removing my motherboard from my case which I didn't really want to do unless I had to.

Is there a direct replacement fan available ? ?

There is IIRC, but you still need to remove the board to fit it, as you will need to pinch the rear of the plastic lugs holding the old one on. It's all one piece, the fan is attached to the heatsink.

If you can figure a way to remove the old one without removing the board, then any replacement with simliar push fittings will be a breeze to install without removing the board.

if you're that desperate not to take it out you could just snip the wires going to the fan to kill it and then point another fan as the area either using cable ties or a zalman fan bracket to hold it in place, or use something like an antec spot cool.

Or just unplug it to save any wire snipping :D

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and get one of those Zalman fanless coolers.

Would the smaller ZM-NB47J heatsink be OK with this board ? ? Just looks like it would fit better that the larger heatsink but probably means it runs slightly warmer.

My case has a fan in the side so any hotair from this heatsink should get taken away quite quickly.

Hi all, i still have a Abit nf7s v2 and the fan on mine started making a lot of noise i found that the fan has no bearings and just a sleeve, i took the fan off the heatsink removed a round sticker so i could see the circlip and put 2 drops of engine oil in it, wiped any surplace oil off replaced sticker and that sorted it. I have found i have to do this once every 12 months.

Bye,

Ian...

Second this, should be able to unscrew the fan from the heatsink without taking your motherboard out.

A near as direct replacment would be the vantec iceberq vga/chipset cooler.would blug into the 3pin psu fan socket near the 2 pin nb socket thats currently occupied. With enough force you could pull out the pushpuns holding the current fan in, but would be safer to push out from the other side ;)

Just an update for you:-

Had this week off work so I bit the bullet and sorted my noisy fan out onace and for all. Ended up ordering the Zalman NB47J cooler from OCUK. Put aside a few hours yersterday and took the motherboard out and done it properly.

Fitting it went a treat and was easy and straight foward. PC is so much quieter now.

Best £4.59 I've spent in a while ! !

Cheers all for your help.
