Just thought you should know (whilest letting off some steam) that the RMA service dealing with WE directly is terrible. They've had me sitting here for a month and a half with no HD.

The HD (10k raptor) gets delivered to their collection point which apparently takes another 20 days to ship off to the correct department, then another 20 to have it diagnosed which i thought was pretty obvious since i had already tested it for them, in that there's a horrible rattling noise when you power it up, and you cannot complete any diagnostics on it anyway. Then after that they will decide whether to dispatch it to you in the slowest postal method possible.

So if anyone is considering returning stuff back to western digital, i'd suggest doing it through ocuk instead, since the most i've ever been waiting is less than 2 weeks.

Ok now i'm going to put a wet cold towel over my head and sit down.

Welcome to the world of BS computer customer service, all companys i dont care which one, they are all the same, fast enough to take your money but when it comes to RMA it takes months.

They must be shipping them back to Thailand for RMA handling. I sent one in 9th of Dec and have a delivery confirmation from Royal Mail, but nothing from WD getting a bit concerned as the RMA no. is supposed to expire on 7th Jan.

If it doesn't show up soon I would have been liable for the extortionate $220 hold over charge under the terms of the 'Advanced RMA'

OTOH I sent some DDR back to Crucial delivered to them by the 17th Dec and received replacements on the 19th.

Oh noes, well let's see; i sent my HD back to WE on the 17th November, arrived at their collection point on the 19th November, this didn't get to their department till 5th December, and mine was dispatched last saturday 27th december, but still hasn't arrived.

Maybe though, just maybe WE has fired their entire rma department or something due to the credit crunch.

Wow that's slow. I've only ever used Antec RMA recently and found them to be brilliant, both with emails and delivery times. Sounds as though WD don't give the same level of service. :(

What's even more funny is that i sent an email on the 1st of december about it, and only just managed to get a reply from them today....... thanks WE .... thanks a lot!

Phone calls just give you the usual reaction responses of "it's in a queue" etc etc. But tbh I don't buy it WE!!! lol but at least i can see a funny side? or has all this waiting made me partially insane?

Personally used RMAs to Seagate/maxtor, Samsung, Corsair and Crucial

Cannot fault any of them, had replacements within 1-2 weeks absolute tops.

Only time I have had problems was sending a XFX 6800gt back, which took ages!

Advanced RMA :)

Yeah what he said, although I did this myself and the replacement drive still didn't arrive for well over a week which I wasn't impressed with in the slightest. I also then returned the faulty drive right away but didn't get notification that they had recieved it until 2 days before the month you have to return the drive was up.

All in all a poor service from WD considering the premium you pay for their drives over other brands with similar performance.

Must have changed within the last 24months then. I changed a 74GB Raptor (advanced RMA) and got it delivered within the week, posted the broken one off and got confirmation within another week. Seem to remember it was Northern Ireland I sent it?

That's good to hear/ My own experience of their service was about 3 months ago so it's fresh in my mind. What drive did you send back out of interest?

I sent back a Raptor-X 150Gb drive.

I had to send a Samsung 160 Sata drive back last month to sammy themselves.Fantastic service.
Used there online website to get the RMA and postal address.
I sent it on the Monday. They recieved, Tested and shipped replacement drive on the Tuesday which then recieved on the Wednesday.

ROFL, i'm so sorry, i have airsoft guns on the brain, sorry it's WD, my mistake.

And the drive in question is an original Raptor X 150GB, the place i sent it off to was in hounslow middlesex. I really hope this is a one off incident though, as some posters seem to have had a good experience.

Used Advance RMA with them recently, made the request on the 25th December and received my new drive today. Old 74GB Raptor replaced with a 74GB Velociraptor.

"Current turnaround is 5 to 7 business days for a Standard RMA and 3 to 5 business days for an Advance RMA"

I had the same level of service with a Samsung Spinpoint which was DOA, went through rexo and received a replacement in 7 working days. That time I had to send the drive in first however as they don't do a form of advance.

If time is an issue, go through the Advance RMA.

I have to say that I had excellent service with WD until recently when a drive went awol. Apparently it never arrived. 2nd class recorded isn't enough apparently :(

Over the Christmas period (that is if your package was posted over the Christmas period), I've learned never to put much faith in Royal Mail Recorded. Especially for anything important, as signatures and records don't show up for up to a week after "delivery". Special Delivery costs the extra, but you'll see it on track and trace much sooner.
