Any RC Heli addicts on here?

I'm seriously considering buying a Blade 400... It will be my first heli and from what I'm reading it isn't recommended for beginners at all but I don't really like buying things that would limit me in what I could do.

I am very patient, though, so would take things very slowly.

Damn my impulse buy cravings!

I did the same thing last year, got the 400 with a copy of pheonix flight sim and i have only crashed it twice this year. havent regretted buying it for a second

How often do you fly it? I don't think I will be buying a simulator so I will have to take extra precaution.

from what i read the Blade 400 is a good choice, and it comes with a programable transmitter, but as with any heli that uses a collective pitch system is hard to fly, no matter which heli you get buy the training gear, as it helps prevent tip overs, the phoenix flight sim is also very good, as it will alow to to use your transmitter to get your thumbs doing the right thing at the right time without the risk of costly repairs, having said that, crashes/repairs are good, in the sense that it teaches you about your heli, and what bits do what.

I use the blade cx2 for indoors,i have the century gl450 for out doors.

reason i went for the gl450 is because its exactly the same heli as the Trex 450,infact every part i have replaced have been trex parts, they tend to be a lot cheaper than century,16 quid for a complete alloy rear rotor assembly:)bargain.I was looking at getting the blade 400 but gonna hold out till the summer and get the Trex 600 i think,i did like the radio gear with the blade 400,spectrum dx6i,so i got it for my 450.

I have a trex 450sev2 and a trex 500. Def get yourself over to rcheliaddict.co.uk - if you are looking at real model helis rather than toys that is a good starting point. Best thing you can do is get youyrself a good radio such as a a DX6i or budget allowing DX7 and Phoenix Sim. Learn with that for a bit and buy a heli when you have the basics. If impatient by a co-ax heli to fly while also learning on phoenix and then buy a collective pitch heli when you have the orientation down

Popped into town to a local model store and was introduced to the Thunder Tiger Mini Titan. Now, after looking on the net this seems like an awesome heli but there are a few issues that I am confused about.

First off, the Blade 400 comes with a 6 channel DX6i GHz transmitter which I am led to believe is very good where as the Titan comes with a 4 channel MHz transmitter(I don't know the brand/model). What are the differences between 6 and 4 channel and GHz and MHz frequencies?

mini titan is a good heli, comparable with trex 450. It typically comes as a kit or partially assembled with motor, esc and blades but no radio or gyro. I think you have your wires crossed on the radio being packaged with it as it needs 6 channels (3 servos on cyclic, throttle, rudder and gyro gain).
2.4ghz is the way to go, no crystals and pretty much bullet proof connection with your model, multipe models in the air without worrying about what frequency to go for. Avoid older radios 35mhz, they're dinosaurs.

The blade 400 is an excellent starter package, the DX6i will grow with you and can be used in subseuent helis or planes. If you bought that, definitely get yourself phoenix to use for a while before you maiden it

I asked the guy in the shop if it comes RTF with a transmitter. He said yes and that it comes with a 4 channel.

I am in a bit of a dilemma about which to go for now.. What would you recommend that I do? From what I can tell, the Blade deal is great because of the awesome transmitter but the Mini Titan is a better heli.

EDIT: Here is a link to the Titan, it says it comes with a 4 channel there, too.

From what I can gather this is the transmitter

I've got a blade cx2 - that doesn't fly so great now as I had a bit of a crash.

I took it to show my brother in law and was showing off - anyway was flying it too high and the wind took it and it would not respond to the controls any more so my only option was to power down. It ended up crash landing on my old school roof (was in the playing fields at the time) - I managed to retrieve it after climbing up onto two flat roos but buggered my elbow up jumping down when I smacked it against the window - should have just left it up there.

the thunder tiger can use 4 or 6 channel transmitter/reciever combos, its to do with the way the servos work.
best to get it as a barebones kit, and add your own radio gear to it to get thebest, 6 is the way to go.

I started with a CX2, very quickly wanted more so got a Trex 450SEv2, awesome heli. I now have a Trex 500 which is incredible. Just ordered a 250 as well.

Watch out, this hobby bites, and it is expensive!

Any recommendations for a nice cheap starter heli ? Was playing with one of those £20 jobbies and I might be hooked ! Want something better than that though.

Sorry I missed this as been away. What did you do? I would avoid the non-brand transmitter with the titan package. May be ask them for a price with that swapped for a DX6i? Blade is a good heli. i really would get yourself a sim though.

Let us know what you think of the 250 when you get it. I'm quite tempted but building a plane at the mo (scale piper cub)

I decided to go for a Blade 400 with a copy of Phoenix simulator in the end. It should be with me on Tuesday(I would have had it earlier if it wasn't new year :()

If you think that you might seriously get into the hobby then you might want to consider a more expensive model like the Blade 400. I was in the same boat as you and decided that if I were to get one of those cheaper fixed pitch helis like the Blade CX I would have wanted something better very quickly. I decided that I wanted to jump in the deep end and buy a collective pitch heli, which are harder to fly but are more capable helicopters that will last longer. Just a thought.
