What company is next to go bust?

so ive just seen an advert for someone whos part of the dsgi group, "massive stock clearance sales" nice lol.

They do this every year. I hate this now, as soon as a good sale is on or a company says stock clearance everyone jumps on it and says OMFG they are going bust.

Thats the idea of retail, you clear as much stock as you can. Then you buy more and clear it again.

fair enough but i just find it funny how the dsgi group are in trouble and they have massive stock clearances.

I think stores like SCS will go, but they are awful business to deal with as a customer. When you actually look at the ticket prices I found them to be more expensive than John Lewis.

The high street needs a clearout, but I do fear for peoples jobs. I want to see the better stores (John Lewis) taking more trade etc.

Argos - tack

Crunch time will be on the next rent bill etc.

I'm surprised Virgin are still going, I worked for ntl when they went bust the first time

Did anyone think the USC survival was a bit corrupt???

Exactly. It is about turnover, not per-product profit. Lots of retail stores would technically operate a loss on a lot of the good they sell, as they rely (not totally) on earning interest on the money they turn over before they pay back the manufacturers, who sell their items on credit.

In fact, that sole principle is that the supermarket Kwik Save was based on; selling at cost, turning over so much that they make millions from interest and investments for that 60 - 90 day credit period they negotiated with manufacturers.

John Lewis is only decent because of the price match on items, without the other stores to beat them down with John Lewis is incredibly over priced no matter how good their assistants are.

I personally quite like argos.

I disagree with this, John Lewis aren't overpriced in direct comparisons, they just don't stock most of the cheap crap that many other stores do.

If I can get in John Lewis and the price is right that is where I go. What I don't like is the sales people at the likes of SCS who just sat there and said JL sell rubbish.. Errr hello... and it was like bye after I told the bloke not to be so much of a jerk. Also pointed out why was I the only one in the store if they were that great...

Companies that offer poor service etc. and so on need to be cleared out..

Sorry I should have said I'm talking mainly electricals. TV's etc. Just about every TV I was looking at with them was £100-200 over any where else. Even with the 5 year warranty other places now offer the same and are much cheaper.

Don't get me wrong I love using them but only with a price match.

Even when I was looking for an Analon pot in the sales JL wanted £100 for it where I could walk into any other cookshop and get it £30-40 cheaper.

I love looking round the big store with have in cambridge but I rarely buy from there once I have found what I want.

Would be a shame to see JJB go, if I ever want a football shirt its where I go to get it, and they have a good selection of items.

Game is probably in a better position than most high street stores right now, as the gaming industry isn't being hit as hard by the credit crunch as some other sectors. Doesn't Game own Gamestation?

John Lewis is quite pricey, as is Waitrose, but I prefer to shop in both when I can afford to because I used to work for Waitrose and they do offer fantastic customer service.
