Best AGP Card

Need to replace my x1950 pro that has borked over new year :(

What's a decent AGP card nowadays with similar if not better performance?

TIA

It's one of the last (and fastest) AGP cards around so for people without PCIE mobo's it's the best they can go for without changing everything.

I read online that the 3850 is CPU limited on a lot of AGP systems. I decided the best bang for the buck was the 3650 on my old Athlon 64 3200+ system and went for that.

Depends what you have though really :) Over a ton from overclockers for an 3850 AGP card just doesn't quite do it for me.

I'd really be inclined to sell your mobo (at least) and put some money towards a new platform, esp if this is a main machine. I would definitely not buy an AGP card new now, it's just not worth it. There is a good second hand market for this age of kit, you may be able to get a good price.

Yeah I'm a bit dubious about spunking a ton on a gfx card.

Just can't afford a new rig at them moment, credit crunch an all that :)

Considering AGP and singlecore cpu's seem to go hand in hand, I don't think it would be worth it. Better to go for a cheap, whole upgrade than trying to tippy toe along with what you have..

well I know (because i own them) that an x1950 is bottlenecked to about 70 - 80% of its performance by my Athlon64 3500+ (overclocked to 3.5ghz) so I would say anything thats around the performance of an x1950, would not be bottlenecked by an X2 5200+

socket 939?

whats your full spec

Aye, running at 2.61 ghz and 3 gig of ram cant remember what the ram is tbh :/

This rig has been faultless up until now and has handled everything great apart for a cheeky power cut that killed my gfx card :(

Socket 939 duel cores are worth a bomb right now you could get £100 for it sell the rest & do a nice budget build.

You will spend the same but get a much faster more upgradeable rig.

A basic build eg

e5200 £70
4gb of ddr2 £40
Decent mobo £90
4670/ 8800 gt £70

£270

If you go for a second hand mobo & gfx you could get it under £200 easy

the only worry would be your psu.

Consider this!

PSU should be fine, Corsair 520

I will look into it, I haven't got 200+ spare at the moment though :/
