Hi Guys,

As you know i'm currently in the process of getting a Mini Cooper S. Now i'm going through the dealers as they are giving more than my cars worth basically to spend.. (although that isn't exactly coming up trumps.. but that is another story.)

Now on to the topic, the dealer i'm going through is shortly to be getting hold of a Chilli Red, white roof with Chilli and Auto A/C, now the only problem is that the car has 48k on the clock.. it's a 54 plate so it's roughly 10k a year...

Would you say that is worth it? considering my car has only 30k on the clock, and is selling 10k with cars with more mileage than mine (R56 56 Plate Mini Cooper with Pepper)

Also Chilli Red isn't my first choice of colour, but the spec is exactly what i'm after, and it's a facelift model. It just seems that dealers aren't releasing cars to my dealer.. eventhough the advertised price is within the price range.

So the question is... is the mileage to high?

Cheers.

To high in what way? Its not like its going to suddenly break. Do you mean to high as it has more the one you're trading in?

So you're swapping an newer problematic car for an old one with more mileage? What's to say you won't have issues with the older one?

I think i'm going along the lines of that the car is halfway through it's life, the car will come with a years warrenty so most of the stuff is covered.. but the dealer is very keen to keep me happy. The chap who's doing the grunt work says the car is very tidy for it's age, so i'm gonna go drive it on Sunday, see what I think.

Half way through its life at 50k? Better scrap my car then, it's just about to tick over to 159k!

48k? So what

That's why i'm asking the question, i've never owned a car with so many miles on :p i'm guessing what i'm after is re-assurance.. even my little dinky fiat only had 25k on it.

If you look after it, service it regularly and warm it up properly (very important with a forced induction car) it'll go on for much more than 100,000 miles.

That's nothing from a modern engine.

It's a well known fact that cars explode after 50k miles, so i'd tread with caution.

Dealer saw you coming and all that. :)

Not being funny but didn't you get rid of your first Mini because it kept breaking? And the same has happened again?

Why are you buying a third (even more complex)?!

I'm guessing mother doesn't help, I think she's under the impression all cars 'go' at 100k, servicing isn't an issue with the Mini as it will come with TLC plus it's dead cheap to extend... and the warrenty is extendable, I think if I like it i'll probably end up having it.. Mum is coming out with the comments "You don't want a Red car, you will look ghey"

*Waits for the all Mini's are ghey comments :p"

Thanks folks.

The car will feel exactly the same as a 5 year old car with 150k on the clock as it did with 30k on it. All it needs is to be well maintained.

Going for third time lucky :)

...and a different colour apart from blue!!

That sounds like we can't shift this car so can you please buy it?
