Hey guys,
I got my new Sapphire HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 today. :)
Funny thing is, i was expecting it to have the picture of the HOT chick on the front fascia like this:

But the card i got looks like this:

Anyone know why my card is different?
Have they changed the design of the card ?
Mine has a much larger fan on it which must be better but i would have liked the one with the fancy looking fascia .

BTW
I'm new to the forum its helped me out a lot.
So hiya to all and keep up the good work.
Cheers for now.......

Does the cooler resemble the lower pic i.e two slot central fan design ? if so then I'd shh and stop worrying about hot chicks and you have bought a nice cool card

if you're that worried about lacking a hot chick you could check out the post your gf thread in GD

P.S welcome lol

I'd be glad to have gotten the one you have tbh, it looks like a much better cooler and hopefully quieter than the stock one.

Better cooler >> pictures on card anyday.

Oh and surely with the card being in your pc anyway, you wouldnt be able to see the picture?

As above, nothing to worry about that, its a custom cooler that they are now shipping on their 4870's, and from what ive heard about them they are crackers, much better than the reference coolers (which is top pic), and nice and quiet to.

Taken (another member on these forums) has just had one of those ones turn up today as well.

EDIT: Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Yep that cooler is similar to there toxic card so i bet its much better than the reference. I think all sapphire 4870's come with this cooler as we had a thread same as this a month or 2 back. Enjoy the improved cooler and get some gaming done instead of worrying about a picture. I actually think on looks the new cooler looks nicer also.

Temps???

Yea...i just bought one for christmas and got the new cooler...only thing is it was a second card to go with the one i allready had....which is an original.....the card runs much cooler than the original, idle @ 44 degrees as opposed to about idle 70 degrees for the stock cooler, but with the fan option on the new drivers its easy to set it at 40% and it comes down in line with the new card....only gripe i got really is that they look odd and dont match...but seeing as theres only me going to see them...i suppose it dont matter.

Heh, yeah I got me one of these today! 512mb..

Completely to oposite of you.. I didn't want that man made lady stuck to the side of my card... and as said above, nice and chilly over the old cooler ;)

Just as a comparison.. see below for my X1950 XTX (now in dads rig) compared with my new HD4870.. I prefer the black heatpipe cooler! :D

I have the 1gb version with that cooler on.

Temps aren't brill to be honest. Clocked to 800 on the core and idles at around 57c, loads at around 72c.

The fan is well audible at 45% and above but it is quieter than the normal Sapphire attempt so all is good.

Yeah that's the new cooler from Sapphire. I posted mine few weeks ago. Mine clocked to 825/1055 and load around 70c. Sometimes the fan just kick in for a few secs and quite loud to be honest :)

got 2 of the 512b cards with that cooler, was a bit noisy at first but after editing the bios its now silent even in 3d, idle temps 42c, load around 65c

i downloaded the flash tool from sapphire's site, and got the bios off my cards using gpuz. you can then edit the bios with ati bios editor, i just select recommended fan settings and it set fan speeds itself.

i've got the 512 version of this with the new cooler and at 40% my fan is silent. not even a whisper. it is only audiable around 55-60%

idle temps at 40% are 42deg
Load never much over 50%

Mine is not, at 40% I can hear it, at 50% I can hear it more, at 60% I can hear the wife moaning about it.

I reckon a new bios flash should cure it, if I can just find the tools to do it.

I have my fan manually set at 70%.. and it no louder than the rest of my pc.

Just goes to show how noisy my rig must be :o
