Currently have all three services (XL BB, L TV + Phone M) but looking at ditching the TV altogether as I don't really watch anything I can't get on Freeview.

To this end I was just looking at the website and it seems to say that, as a new customer, I could get basic phone and 20Mb broadband for £10 a month for the first six months and £20 a month after that, when I take a phone line for £11 a month).

Now I don't care about the £10 a month for six months bit but it looks like, after that introductory period, it would cost £31 for both services when the XL BB alone is listed at £37 - how on earth does that work out? Am I missing something here?

Lots of companies do that. You get massive discounts on packages, mostly because packages tend to have longer contract periods and if you have TV you're more likely to add extra channels and things they can charge you for and wotnot.

Back in the day NTL used to do a deal where if you got TV and phone internet was effectively free or worked out at £-2 or someting. And this was back in the mid 90s when internet was a luxury.

See iff you can downgrade, tell them you want to pay the £31 a month like new customers do after the 6 months. If they don't play ball, ask to cancel and they'll put you through to retentions who are more likely to give you a the deal.

I have been paying £49/month for L TV, broadband and phone for the last 4 years. I called them up just before christmas to see if they would lower my bill to the level that new customers get after th 6 month period, but the call centre drone would have none of it. All they would do to drop my bill was go down to M broadband and save £7. Going to look at how much it will be to go back to BT phone line after christmas and get sky/freeview, if retention wont do anything to drop it more.

Well I did speak to them and they offered me 20meg broadband, phone line & basic TV for £31 although it was valid for 12 months only and I'd be committing to a new 12 month contract.

Contract issues aside, that price doesn't seem half bad actually, comparing well with the likes of Be and a BT phone line.

Yeah they've been a bit hard to deal with Re:retentins offers lately after they ballsed mine up after moving home but after a good amount of calls and basically proving to them that their home move dept caused the issue Im now on:

XL BB
XL TV
V+ Box
L Phone (I think eve w/end and eve calls)
caller display
call barring

for £44 a month

afaik basic tv is free (well almost) and the phone line and 20mbp is costing me £21 per month (inc e-billing) and it would rise to your £31 per month. i would go for the tv myself but the wiring in the flat is fubar'd and basically i dont fancy possibly paying for the install and sorting out things with the letting agents...

Well I'm actually very happy with my broadband service from them but my local exchange is enabled for Be and their products were looking quite tempting. Problem is I've never had a BT phone line at this address, let alone ADSL so could go through all the hassle of changing only to find the line quality is awful and I can't get anywhere near the speeds I have now.

20meg cable and phone for £31 is much the same as I'd be paying for a BT line with Be so that's good enough to keep me with the known quantity that is VM.

I would be very cheesed off if they charged a loyal customer of four years £37 and new customers £20.

i'm already cheesed off seeing people paying a ridiculously small amount for new customers. its just the way it is i guess.
and divine wind your right it is pretty decent, i suppose we just expect it to be cheaper still :p

Wow  I'm embarrassed by how much I'm being scammed for considerably less - have been meaning to shout at the retentions guys for a while - guess it's time - any idea how much I can get the V+ box for from them or is it worth sourcing it elsewhere (if that's legal of course ) - Is that HD as well or is that another service?

Same here, just checked and I am paying £37 for 20Meg :o

What is the number for customer retentions ?

I think the v+ box is technically rented from them.
I got mine for £75. It does have HD but there is only 1 HD chanel st the moment! (BBC)
I currently get XL BB, XL TV and phoneline(dunno what as I never call off it) all for about £38 a month!
To be honest I didn't want the tv as I have sky but sky wanted £11 for setanta sports and virgin offered me the xl tv for an extra £7 a month than what I was paying. As Virgin xl tv already has setanta for free I took them up on their offer and now have both sky and virgin!!!
