Looking at a D80 atm but wondering whats the equivalent Canon ?

Seen the D80 with Nikkor AF-S DX 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED for £650 . Can i buy a better Canon for that cash ?

Also is the Canon EF5018 - Lens 50mm F1.8 Mk2 the nifty fifty everyone talks about and is £90 the going price ? (new)

And lastly is the Sigma Lens 70-300mm F4-5.6 Apo Dg Canon any good ? (£199 new)

Thanks guys

£650 is waaay too much for a D80, that's Nikon D90/Canon 40D territory. The D80's equivalent was the Canon EOS 30D, though the EOS 400D competed with it too. Canon and Nikon don't really directly compete with each other's respective models, they tend to overlap each price point quite a bit.

The 50mm f/1.8s from both companies are great and well worth it. I got mine (Nikon) for about £50 but that was from Hong Kong.

The D80 is available for £391 with the 18-55mm VR lens so £650 with the 18-135mm seems pretty steep to me. In fact, I just bought the D90 with kit lens for £620 the other day (tax free) so I'd probably look around for a better deal on the D80.

Ditto, I think this is a good deal (though the kit lens has quickly been replaced with a 50mm f/1.4D for most purposes).

Yup not long after posting i found it for £391 . Now two of my friends have D80's and paid considerably more than £400!! So question is should i get the D80 or look at a canon ? And if so what canon for about the £400 ish mark ? Also what lenses would u recomend?

I'm looking to purchase the 1.8 50mm myself - can't afford the 1.4 :(
Saying that however, a friend reserved the 1.8 at the high street camera retailer the other day. When he went to pick it up they handed him the 1.4 and charged him the price of the 1.8 - £78! 200 quid less than their list price. Jammy bugger! :D

£391?, you can get it for £538 with the 18-135, I think you are thinking of the D60.
A broad equivalent of the D80 would be the 30D or 40D, however the 30D is well out of production and the 40D is somewhat dearer.
If you are prepared to drop a level of construction the 450D is a nice little unit with a lot of features and comes bundled with the 18-55IS lens it's also a lot cheaper at £426, it feels a bit plasticky compared to the D80 but that's fine really, you're not going to play footy with it.

The 50mm F1.8 "normal" lens is a cracker from either company though I recall Amateur Photographer testing them (and Pentax and Sigma) and the Nikon edged it, but it was so marginal as to be unimportant.

The 70-300 APO is a nice enough lens (for the money), I've owned it and still would if I hadn't dropped it 8ft onto concrete

I have both, and the f/1.8 is nearly as good (and the cheapness makes me much happier to use it without protection), and both need stopping to about f/4 for optimal sharpness anyway. I wish I'd got the f/1.4 for that money, I probably paid slightly over the odds as I'm currently in Japan and the exchange rate sucks (but I wanted the lens for immediate use). Strangely the otherwise 20+ quid HR-2 rubber hood is only Y600 here (5 quiddish), so I made my money back by buying 3 of those ;)

Well anyone looking for a D80 dont bother as there is none heheh ... ah well missed out again ...will teach me to check sooner .
