Hello

Anyone there using this set up ?

I have a problem which may be Vista based, I am not sure.
But when I change the setting on TVersity to only allow the IP adress of my PS3, the whole thing goes wrong and TVersity will not connect ever again.
I can turn my PC off and on. Remove the IP adress from the box. Nothing makes any difference. I have to reinstall TVersity to get it back working.

Just wondered if anyone else had seen this issue and had any pearls of wisdom ?

Cheers

Yeah !!
Could be. Thanks.

Just one more thing I've noticed this very moment. Just having the server up and running on my PC (even when nothing was connected and streaming) my downstream internet traffic was through the roof !!
I was downloading several MB per minute even though I have not subscribed to any shows. Do you know what that is all about.

I only have 30gb a month's worth of download and if it's downloading nothing for no good reason I may have to stop using it :(

maybe it is downloading album art or something? Run a netstat from the command prompt and see what the IP address is that you are connected to.

Why sony cant just implement it so that the PS3 can see Windows shares god only knows.

I'll try the netstat thingy !!

The thing I like about TVersity is that it encodes on the fly and it means I can waych anything on the PS3 now. Even the stuff that came up as "Unsupported Format" previously.
Also it seems a bit faster at browsing folders too :)

Nero Home works well but I am going to try Twonky media when I get my NAS box sorted.

TVersity, when it works, works well. But when it doesnt, its a pain

Could you do me a favour and monitor your internet downstream traffic to your PC while you are streaming to your PS3 ?

I was getting about 15mb downloaded in 6 minutes and I'd like to know if that is normal.
:)

I use TVersity and i have no problems with it.

Im assuming you use a wireless router. If so why don't you just set up WPA2 Security on the router and then run the network wizard on the PS3 on auto mode (it will detect it, auto get IP address and go through the steps) and all you have to do is enter the password for the router on the PS3 and then after that it will connect automatically each time.

This way only the machines which have the password can connect and your network will be secure.

This is the way my network is setup and TVersity works fine on both of my PS3's.

TVersity is downloading RSS feeds on your behalf that you are unaware of!
See this thread: http://www.avforums.com/forums/ps3-...f-you-use-tversity-make-sure-youre-aware.html

You need to go into RSS Feed settings and delete all subscriptions in there!!!!!!!

On some peoples machines it had downloaded 32GB!!!!!!

Nah, its not that. I made sure :)
Also I only have downstream traffic when I am actively watching something on my PS3. When TVersity is up and running and I am not watching anything on my PS3, I have no downstream traffic. Odd !!

Also I can't use WPA2 security or my Wii would not be able to connect to the router :(

Are you sure the traffic is from the Internet? It could just be the TCP/IP errors coming back from the PS3...

I'm kinda sure its the internet.

192.168.2.3 is my PC (or TVersity)
192.168.2.4 is my PS3
AKO-5 is what my PC is called

As for the other connections ?
External ?

There only looks like there is one external connection there to IP address:

72.21.207.193

Which is an online shop, not mentioning any names but it is a river is South America.

Just temporarily disable internet access from your router by unplugging the connection to the net and perform the test again. See if you get data 'downloaded' and that would show if it is coming back from the PS3 or not...

Hmmm.... an interesting test.

I unplugged my phone line and tried again.
My local area connection status said I was still recieving a ton of data, but my actual internet traffic was non existant (obviously)
How odd !!

Once my phone line was back in, i got an IP adress of the bank of Japan this time :/

So it seems that all this downstream traffic is just some kind of feedback from the PS3 ??

Yes- it's how TCP/IP works. When the data is sent, if the recipient (PS3 in your case) cannot process the data correctly it sends back an error message. That data packet is then sent again.

As you are streaming content to the PS3 you are sending a ton of data and there are bound to be many packets coming back with errors- hence your data overhead.

And as for the Bank of Japan....No Eye Dear.
