Murray battles to win over Nadal
Andy Murray

Andy Murray completed his preparation for the new tennis season with a hugely encouraging win over world number one Rafael Nadal in Abu Dhabi.

The British number one followed up Friday's defeat of Roger Federer with a 6-4 5-7 6-3 win over Nadal in the final of the exhibition tournament.

Looks like Murray is in form beating the worlds top two in the same tournmanet. He holds a very impressive record over Federer and now its 5-2 actually overall from head to heads with Nadal. So lets hope he can keep this going for the Australian Open soon!

edit: whoops i put murry.

To be fair to him he's been on form all season. He's won some of the biggest tournaments outside of the Grand Slams and he's consistently beaten the best players. I think it's safe to say he's now one of the elite and all that's left is that Grand Slam win.

Murray still in my eyes looks too vulnerable on his second serve. Once he sorts that out, he'll get this first major.

The game between him and Nadal was excellent today. If you get a chance to watch it, I'd certainly recommend it.

Murray has been brialliant all tourne. He is going to be a major threat to win the Aussie Open.

How good is tennis at the moment. 4 great tennis player who are all capable of beating each other any given day, has tennis ever had so many complete tennis players all in one era. I mean you had Sampras & Agassi at the same time, but it was mainly them two who dominated tennis.

Yea, having Federer on his own was just immense and jaw dropping. Then Nadal. Then err, the other bloke. Then Murray. It's good for the competition and it really brings out the best matches. :)

A good start to the year for him but let's not get carried away.

I think this year for Murray is about more development.

It would be tremendous if he could win a slam this year, but I still think he will come up short.

I thought last year was about Murrays developement :D
I think he almost has the complete game now, obviously he is still going to improve as is Nadal and Djokovic but i think murray is ready to win a major this year.

Waka waka waka

How would it be 'karma'? Your sentance saying "he will be competing in the greatest tennis tournament in the world in England" is a strange one. Do you mean he is competing in the greatest Tennis tournament in England? Or the Greatest Tennis tournement in the world that is currently held in England? The greatest Tennis tournement in the World as is currently held in England? Or the greatest Tennis tournement in the World ever ever ever...that happens to be currently held in England? Or perhaps you mean clay court best ever....what I said before?

Or Perhaps 'karma is meant in a Sharon Stone sense in that he deserves to die because he is Scottish and that would even up the "divide"?

Long live the Dali Murray!

LMFAO!

I would but other nations hate England so meh, he hates England.

Away wi' ye.

Murray doesn't hate England although given the petty minded attitudes of a number of people I'd suggest he could be forgiven for being less than charitable towards them. Incidentally your link in your subsequent post ignores that his remark was a joke in a press conference with Tim Henman (the ex-British number one and noted Englishman), who not surprisingly recognised it for the flippant comment that it was and played along with it. Andy Murray has an English girlfriend, plays for the Davis Cup team whenever he is fit and has subsequently refrained from any remarks that could be misinterpreted as far as possible but if you don't want to acknowledge this then fair play, he is apparantly happy enough being British in such matters but if you don't like that there isn't much he (or I) can say to change that.

All I'd really like is some consistancy in regard to whether people are British or from one of the home nations in sports where we don't compete separately. Rugby, football etc you can compete as a Scotsman, Englishman, Irishman or Welshman but for tennis, cycling etc generally you don't.

And aside from the rather dull and repetitive "is he or isn't he anti-English", congratulations to Andy Murray on another notable win, I really hope that 2009 is the year that he manages to win one of the Grand Slam events.
